36 hours in big sur, M Loves M
Memorial Day weekend was definitely a memorable one! Matthew and I went to Big Sur for the weekend with my parents and brother Anthony. We love doing little family trips whenever we can. Usually it’s up to the Bay Area, or Cambria, but Big Sur was fun because it was a place I’d never been. Big Sur was as beautiful as can be, and reminded me a lot of some of my other favorite coastal towns {Cambria and Santa Cruz mainly}. One interesting thing about Big Sur is that the weather was very cool and breezy, especially in the shade, but in the sunshine it was warm enough to lay out. I loved being able to go on hikes and then spend time by the pool. I seriously haven’t done that in way too long. So happy we were blessed with such perfect weather, too! {I apologize in advance for the photo heavy post!}

36 hours in Big Sur

place to eat
Big Sur Bakery + Restaurant– so good we went for dinner one night and breakfast the next morning!
Nepenthe– gooorgeous views!!
Cafe Kevah {if the wait at Nepenthe is too long}
Big Sur Roadhouse is supposed to be good too!

things to do
Go hiking! There are so many great trails in Big Sur. We loved the hikes at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. My parents went to McWay Falls on Monday and they said it was absolutely beautiful too. You basically chase waterfalls!
The Phoenix at Nepenthe– cute little shop with home decor, clothing, books, etc.
check out the Henry Miller Memorial Library
Shopping at the Village Shops- lots of cute galleries and gift shops
local events. We were pleased to find a Book and Bake Sale happening over the weekend!

where to stay
We stayed at the Big Sur Lodge, which is within Big Sur State Park. We rented a cabin that slept 5 and our room had a fireplace. It was so fun! They also have a pool so you can do a little relaxing/lounging/tanning if you’re interested.
Post Ranch Inn– this place looked soo pretty although it’s a little more expensive.

Our trip was short so I’m really looking forward to going back again. Big Sur was equal parts active as relaxing. I love little vacations like that; you leave feeling rejuvenated and energized.
If you’ve been to Big Sur please leave a comment sharing your favorite place. I’d love to check it out next time!
