A Dress Worth Splurging For

the prettiest rose print dress

Every now and then you see a dress that’s just so perfect and pretty you have to have it. The only thing holding you back? The price tag! For the most part, I’m a pretty frugal shopper, and love finding the under $100 deals, under $50 if I’m lucky! But I have a weakness for two things: florals and anything from Kate Spade. As soon as I saw this gorgeous rose print, I knew it was a dress worth splurging for. So I told myself, this is a dress that will be perfect for Easter, my big 30th birthday in June, a summer wedding we’re attending, and pretty much every baby and bridal shower I’m invited too. This dress is going to work for itself, making the CPW {cost per wear} super low. Or as low as I can get it!

A dress worth splurging for should definitely fit some specific criteria, though. I always ask myself these 5 questions:

1. Can you see yourself wearing it on at least 3 occasions?

2. Is the style versatile enough to be worn years from now?

3. Is it good quality?

4. Is this item unique enough to not be duplicated everywhere?

5. If I walk away, will I still be thinking about this item later? (Usually, I give myself a few days)

If it fits the criteria, and I think I can work it into my budget, I feel much better about making the item mine. Do you go through a thought process when you’re splurging on an item?

The same thoughts run through my mind when I want to splurge – can I wear it at least 3 times (either occasion or styled different ways). I love that dress you picked. It is gorgeous!

I definitely go through a thought process before splurging. I can see why you splurged on this dress, it looks great on you Mara! <3

    • Thanks Tali!! I’m so glad you like it 🙂 It’s my favorite piece right now!

  • You look so spring-y, Mara! I love this dress on you and your lipstick is so pretty!!

I feel the same EXACT way. If a piece is expensive, I take my time with it. Sometimes too long where it ends up selling out or if I’m lucky, on sale, ha! I think about cost divided by times per wear too. It’s an easy way to justify a pricey purchase. I mostly think about how many seasons out of the year can I wear a piece. My preference is to get my wear for three seasons of the year, but at minimum, at least two. I also ask myself if it’s a “10” in my closet. I pin it and if it’s still sitting on my board and I’ve been thinking about the item for awhile, it’ll definitely be in my shopping cart!
