MY MORNING ROUTINE

My mornings are so much different now that Augustine is here. If you’ve been following for awhile, you know I LOVE to sleep, even though I’m a night owl. One of these days I’ll transition beautifully into the morning-person butterfly I’d like to become, but for now, I stay up late and like to sleep in. Although liking to sleep in and actually sleeping in are two totally different stories. You see, our little guy wakes up before the sun is up! We’ve tried everything to get him to sleep in later {going to bed later, treating 5am wake-ups like the middle of the night, saying a script, giving him 5/10/15 minutes}. This guy is just ready to party and likes to greet the sun in person! Some days he wakes up closer to 6-6:30am and it’s a miracle.

5-6am Wake Up! While we wake up pretty early, we don’t need an alarm clock as my little guy is always babbling away. Usually Matthew or I will go into his room, open the shades and sing a little morning song for him. Then we’ll come back into our bed together, and read stories, chat, and hang out.

7pm Matthew and I switch off days to be up with Augustine while the other gets another half hour of sleep. It’s so nice especially on my days since I’m usually up until 12/1am. If I don’t go back to sleep, I’ll rest in bed while scanning through my emails. Otherwise, I’ll get up and start getting ready.

I’ll wash my face {this is my current skincare routine, along with some of these products that I’ve been testing out}, and change into my outfit for the day. While I used to pick my outfits out the night before, now I like to pick them day of. I feel like every day is so different. Lately, I’ve been loving wearing a pair of light wash denim {such a good color for summer}, and a button-up shirt. P.S. Did you see how I like to wear button-ups with a skirt?

Before heading downstairs I like to read a chapter from this devotional. I’ve loved reading a little bit at a time because each chapter is really short and has some good takeaways. This book has been so helpful in allowing me to stay more focused and live in the moment. As a Type A person, who is always wanting to make people happy, this book has helped me reprioritize my own personal wellbeing and create better boundaries. I’d definitley recommend it!

7:30/8am I usually try to start the day with 8-12 ounces of water. I always feel a lot better when that’s the first thing I drink in the mornings. It just feels a lot cleaner to me than starting with coffee, although that’s quick to follow, trust me! Lately, I’ve actually been making this really good apple cider vinegar drink. It’s actually a recipe from the Tone It Up Nutrition Plan. It is 6oz of water, 2oz apple juice, 1 tbls. apple cider vinegar, 1 tsp. of cinnamon and a sprinkle of cayenne. I shake it up in a cocktail shaker which always makes Matthew laugh, but it’s fun!

For food, I will either make a hearty smoothie, or a bowl of oatmeal with almond butter and coconut. I tend to prefer the smoothie in the summer months because I can drink it throughout the morning which helps prevent any unnecessary snacking. I’m also really into breakfast toasts because you can make a lot of satisfying and filling combos.

8:30/9am While I’m drinking my coffee, I like to make a big To-Do List, or look at the one I’ve made the night before. It’s helpful for me to see what’s on my list so I don’t get side-tracked during the day. I also like to plan some fun activities with Augustine {maybe going to the beach or a museum}. When Augustine and I go on our little adventures, I usually wear something casual like this outfit I wore on our recent trip to Balboa Island. Typically we go on our adventures in the afternoon because he takes a nap around 11am and that doesn’t give us too much time. And if there’s one thing I can’t allow, it’s for Augustine to fall asleep in the car. Car naps are short and usually lead to a grumpy baby, and a mama who can’t finish her work. It’s actually kind of nice though to have a leisurely morning at home {sometimes in our pjs!} and then after his nap we can have a fun outing together!

I hope you all enjoyed reading about my morning routine! What do your mornings look like? Are there any habits or rituals you incorporate? I’d really love to know!
