adventures in maui: north shore

Since Matthew and I stayed on the south side of the island we didn’t travel up to the north shore as frequently but we did make a couple trips based around the food. My parents went to Maui earlier this year and came back with enough food recommendations to keep us busy the whole trip. One place we were dying to try was Flatbread Company, an all natural, wood-burning pizza place in Paia. Matthew, in particular, is a connoisseur of pizza pies so he needed to be the judge. Verdict: a big yummy hit! We also went on a long, wild, slightly life-threatening drive for the best banana bread in the world. I have to  say it was worth it though! On our final night we had an incredible dinner that thinking about it now makes my mouth water. We went to Mama’s Fish House and ate our favorite meal on the island. It was a special dinner, celebrating our anniversary, and everyone in the restaurant was so sweet and congratulatory. We had a card at our table, the manager gave Matthew a lei to give to me, and everyone offered to take photos. The whole night felt perfect and slightly magical. Hawaii does have major charm! I’m looking forward to going back one day!
This last photo was taken on our last night in Maui, which also happened to be our one year anniversary
I’m so lucky to be married to this wonderful and handsome guy and grateful for the opportunity to travel to Hawaii to celebrate our special milestone.
Favorite Spots on the North Shore (Paia)
Hotels: Paia Inn- my parents stayed there and loved it. Also, right next to Flatbread Co., so convenient!
Casual Food: Flatbread Company– order 1/2 and 1/2 so you can try different ones, Ono GelatoJulia’s Banana Bread– not in Paia, but in Kahakuloa (Northwestern part of island), Mana Foods– amazing health food store, great selection, comparable to Whole Foods
Nice Restaurants: Mama’s Fish House– best.dinner.ever, expensive but worth it, fish caught by local fisherman and specified with name and location
Things to Do: Paia is a great little hippie town to walk around and explore. There are great clothing boutiques and quirky little shops. I wish we had more time here.
If you’ve been to Maui before and have a favorite spot I didn’t mention, feel free to leave it in a comment below!
There’s always next time 🙂
