Last Friday night Matthew and I had a date night at Plan Check‘s newest location downtown. There are two other Plan Check’s in LA, each drawing inspiration from the local neighborhoods, and Matthew and I have been talking about checking them out forever. It was so fun to visit this restaurant in such a brand-new space, though! The location has certain dishes that are inspired by the local neighborhood of Korea Town and East L.A., which you can definitely tell when you read the menu. Matthew got this crazy Korean BBQ Burger {with kimcheese -gruyere cheese processed with wine and dried kimchi, bbq sauce, grilled pork belly, sesame salt, fried onion, and sprouting onion}. I ordered the Spicy Tuna Salad with Sriracha vinaigrette, avocado, puffed rice, sesame seeds, black radishes, yellow frisée, nori and garlic flowers. Sounds like a lot of ingredients but it all went together so well! I loved the little kick of spice from the sriracha and garlic flowers! Also, puffed rice added great texture and crunch. The have an amazing cocktail menu and Matthew was extremely impressed with the beer menu. Matthew made all of the beer for our wedding and he’s so into trying new breweries. He said that all of the ones on the menu were his favorites; it would have been the beer list he would choose for “his bar.”

One of the things I noticed about the restaurant is that they have some great long tables for larger parties. I feel like my friends and I are always looking for good bday dinner spots and I think this would be one of them. Also, their happy hour looks real good! If you work downtown, or are close by, I’d definitely recommend checking it out!
