Gift Guide: For the Francophile

Of course there are some die hard francophiles out there, but I think everyone has a tiny bit of a francophile inside of them. I was hoping this gift guide would please the true French lovers as well as anyone who likes a bit of luxury. In my opinion there are four types of francophiles. The one who loves French food. The one who loves French style. The one who loves the French way of living. And of course, the one who loves it all {me!!}.

Let’s start with food. Treat your favorite Frenchie to a delivery of buttery chocolate croissants. There is no reason she should have to go all the way to Paris for a sweet treat! If she prefers to do the cooking, then gift her the very in-demand Staub French oven. You can pick whichever color suits her style, but I am loving this white version with copper detailing. Mariage Freres tea is unbelievably popular in France and around the world, so she will surely be glad to brew a pot of one of their blends this winter. If she is a coffee drinker, a gorgeous French press will encourage her to make cup after cup and enjoy a slow morning. And of course, a little decoration for her chic kitchen would be appreciated.

If she is obsessed with French style, then you can’t go wrong with a classic navy and white marinière shirt! Or a pair of pearl earrings {I like that this pair feels a bit more modern}. Chances are, she already has a beret. So how about a pretty hat from beloved French brand ‎Sézane? A bottle of Chanel perfume and one of their gorgeous red lipsticks is one of the most Parisian gifts you can give!

To encourage her to live like the French, how about a subscription to Vogue Paris? You could also pick up some cute home decor styles, like these his and hers bath mats. Or a piece of art that celebrates France. Any francophile would appreciate a luxe candle from Diptyque or an elegant pair of pajamas. When in doubt, go with a cult classic beauty product normally only found in French pharmacies, like this beloved body oil.

Gift Guide: For the Hostess

Gift Guide: For the Hostess

We all have that friend or family member who loves to play hostess. And thank goodness! Who doesn’t love going to a good party?? I really enjoy entertaining so this is a gift guide I always look forward to making because it’s part gift guide, part wishlist. One hostessing item in particular I’ve had my eye on for a while is a long wooden cheeseboard. I also mentioned wanting one in this post about my Black Friday shopping list, so someone take the hint lol!

Of course nothing is better than cheese, unless you have a crusty baguette to go with it. So if your hostess already has a cheeseboard, consider this chic bread dish. If you just need a small gift to bring as an actual hostess gift {versus a legit holiday gift for someone who loves to entertain} one of my favorite edible hostess gifts to give is a really nice jar of jam and freshly baked bread. That way they have something yummy to look forward to in the morning after all their hard work! Or an oil dipping set if they prefer savory to sweet.

She probably already has a million cookbooks {like me oops!} so I thought a manual for making an amazing cup of coffee would be appreciated for impressing during after dinner drinks and desserts. My friend Amanda raved about this book in particular!

For the glam entertainer, an antique inspired silver wine cooling bucket will make their bar cart look extra posh. As will a metallic tray they can serve food and drinks on or custom golden coasters with their initials on them. I thought I would include a few fun, less on the nose gift ideas for your favorite entertainer. This beautiful photo album would be perfect for showing off their vacation photos during their next cocktail party. And this energy cleansing kit could come in handy before a party. Or after, depending on how the night goes!

Gift Guide: For The Boys

Hi friends,

Matthew here. It’s that time of year again when my sweet wife asks me to create a gift guide for the special men folk of your lives. So here we go!

Chup Socks are artisan creations. They are what Stance socks dream of being. I don’t know if it’s depressing that socks have become a form of “treating” myself, but it is what it is. I’d buy more of these if they were more budget-friendly, but that’s exactly why they are a great gift. I say treat yo feet.

REI Duffel is a solidly built and respectable pack for weekend trips or week-long trips. It’s the biggest size you can get away with as a carry on. I like duffels for work travel and car camping alike. Just feels better than a roller.

Leatherman multi-tool: I include one in every single gift guide that pours out of my soul. Great to have in your daily driver or great just to have. Your guy will be so handy and he’ll finally complete the 942 things you have on your honey-do-list. Bahahahaha keep dreaming sister.

Esee Knives are heavy hitters in the bushcraft and adventure community. Built to outlast… you. I would literally give these as gifts to my best friends if I could justify spending that much money on them.

Traveler jeans – these are super comfortable and have a bit o stretch to them. I recommend buying a size bigger both in waist and length so he won’t have to stress if they shrink or, more likely if he continues to work on his “winter bod”, like old Mateo does.

Yeti coolers work really freaking well and these armored coffee transporters do too. I love the flat dark earth color.

Rugby sweaters are funny bc they are just a sweatshirt with a couple rings on the bicep part of the sleeves and sometimes a stripe. And yet, I will buy them. Mystery of life I guess.

Ugg slippers. You’re probably already aware of my love of Uggalugs (as we call them here at home) if you’ve seen my previous gift guides. Mara finally got smart and doubled down for me. I now have a sweet pair of slippers to warm my dawgs in the morning in addition to my booties. Oh hey girrrrl!

North Face gloves: These are cool. NF makes good stuff. Warm hands, cold hearts. Just kidding. Warm hearts, warm farts.

Camp pillow. Again, sleeping on the ground can be sucky. Camp pillows can help. Help me, help you, help him. Legit brand here. I have one of their Gucci sleeping pads and they are the truth.

White kicks. Basic but that’s the point sometimes. You can’t always be rocking your leopard print underwear while wearing leopard print shoes.

Banaynay Cardigan. I bought one last year for family Christmas photos and love it! They are high quality and pretty warm. Also an easy way to hide a somewhat wrinkled dress shirt. Just keep it buttoned up, fella!

These Vuori shorts are awesome. Not cheap, but awesome. My best friend got me a pair for my birthday this year and I’m already wanting another pair.

Cast iron dutch oven thingy. This is definitely on my wishlist this year. A few weekends ago when we were camping in the desert, my buddy Garrett made an incredible braised stew using one of these. Nuzzled in next to the campfire with some embers on top of the lid turned that pot into a soup-that-sop hot pot to feed a lot.

Be well, be merry, and always enjoy your life. It’s the only one you got.
