Put 1/2 cup pecans into a food processor and pulse a few times. This is going to be the topping so you don't want it too fine or too chunky. Put onto a plate and set aside.
Add remaining 1 cup of pecans, dates and spice to food processor and pulse until it becomes soft and malleable.
Roll between hands into balls, and then roll into pecan topping to coat. Store in the fridge or the freezer!
