Alaska Travel Diary- Victoria, BC

Travel Diary with Princess Cruises Victoria, BC M Loves M @marmar
I know, I know! Victoria BC is not Alaska, but it was our final stop on our Alaskan Princess Cruise. On our last afternoon we went into Canada. My first official time to Canada, unless you count our Skagway train ride. We took a drive around the city, seeing the pretty houses by the water, the University of Victoria, and even the largest watering can. When we drove past this beautiful field during the late afternoon we had to stop and take some photos since the lighting was so pretty. Then we went to The Empress Hotel for a Twilight Tea. It was so fun to sit down for a bit and drink their special tea blend, along with the most delicious scones and sandwiches. Afterwards, we took a 20 minute walk back to the ship, and took in the beauty of Victoria at night. It felt so magical with all the lights sparkling off the water.

I’ve posted about all of the excursions we did in Alaska, although I do have a few outfit posts coming up over the next week or so. This trip with Princess Cruises, if you haven’t already gathered from the posts, was absolutely unbelievable. I had the best time and just looking at these posts makes me miss it so much. I am so grateful for this incredible opportunity to visit new places and try new things.
See more of my Alaska trip! Also, I added more photos to my Juneau post so make sure to check it out!

Alaska Travel Diary- Skagway Train Ride

June 16, 2015

Skagway was our third stop along our Princess Cruise. Skagway is a small little town with a population of about 800 year-round residents. In the summertime the popular triples though! It was so fun to take the train through the scenic White Pass railroad. The railroad was built in 1898 to help facilitate the Klondike Gold Rush. We even passed through Canada for a bit! The views were absolutely breathtaking! After our train ride, we walked through the quaint little city. The town is so historic, with so many buildings from the gold rush era. It was such a fun afternoon and it was surprisingly warm, in the 80s! When we got back to the boat we went up to the top deck, ordered tropical drinks, and laid out. This was such a fun trip and one I’d definitely recommend if you’re making your way through Alaska!

When we were in Juneau, the owner of one of the restaurants mentioned this amazing Thai restaurant called Starfire, so we of course had to check it out. We had the most delicious Pad Thai and Thai iced coffees before walking around the downtown area.

One of the coolest things about walking around the city was seeing the gorgeous mountain views in the distance. It was so picturesque. It almost didn’t even look real!

Alaska Travel DIary- Ketchikan Nature Walk and Crab Feast

exploring ketchikan alaska M Loves M @marmar
It’s hard to believe my Alaskan adventures ended one week ago! Our first stop along the way was in Ketchikan, Alaska. I remember waking up and the Ruby Princess was already docked. I pulled back the curtains and looked out on this quaint little town. It was a beautiful and clear day, although still a bit chilly hence the jacket and beanie! We walked around a little bit by the ports, saw a beautiful totem pole, a saloon that’s been around since 1893, and some fun little shops. Everyone kept on marveling on what a beautiful day it was because it’s usually a little more cloudy. I’m thinking we brought the Southern California sun with us!

After walking around the little downtown area, we took a bus to our excursion. We went on a nature walk at the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary which was maybe about a 15 minute drive from the port. We walked around, learned about salmonberry plants, saw a hallowed-out tree where bears hide temporarily, spotted bald eagles, and learned about the general ecosystem in Ketchikan. Unfortunately, or maybe I should say fortunately, we didn’t see any black bears but we did spot their huge tracks. Beary scary!!

This zebra print backpack totally came in handy on our trip! It was a lucky Crossroads find that I got the day before I left. There was no way I could be hiking around the forest with a purse!

We also visited the Alaska Raptor Center, where they care for injured animals who wouldn’t be able to support themselves in the wild. We met an adorable Barred Owl with an injured leg and a Bald Eagle that was born with a deformed beak, preventing him from hunting for food.  It was amazing to see these animals up close and learn about the work this center is doing for them.

After our nature walk we had an epic crab feast at the George Inlet Lodge. Honestly, this was my favorite part of the whole day. We devoured pounds and pounds of fresh Dungeness crab. It was like we couldn’t stop. It was so incredibly fresh, light and delicious. We had crab a few other nights on our trip, but this place was by far the best! It was just so tender and fresh. We also probably drank a cup of melted butter each! So worth it though! If I was going back to Ketchikan I might recommend doing ziplining in the rainforest {if you’re brave enough} or a sea plane. Whatever you do though, I’d definitely get in on this crab feast at some point! You won’t regret it!
