layering for winter in california

Technically it’s still fall, but I kind of unofficially start counting winter as soon as Thanksgiving is over. Is that terrible? Working in the fashion industry doesn’t help either because I feel like we’re always a season (or two!) ahead. Thinking about spring when it’s fall, and fall when it’s spring. One thing with our winter season in California is that it’s extremely unpredictable. You never know if you’ll have an 80 degree Christmas or a 50 degree one. Something I’ve learned is that layering is key. In my latest article with Refinery 29 I show three of my favorite outfits for layering for an LA-style winter season!
dress Darling {similar green rose print!}, sweater T.J. Maxx {similar}, scarf Ruche, boots Ruche {similar on sale for $45!}, purse Olivia + Joy via T.J. Maxx
The dress, cardi and boots combo makes it’s way into my week at least once!
When it’s a little cooler I’ll add a scarf that’s easy to take off if it gets too warm.
button up J.Crew {similar in black check}, sweater T.J.Maxx {more cable knits}, skirt Nordstrom {on sale for $25!}, tights H&M, heels Sole Society, coat Tulle {this was from a few years ago but I love all their coats}, purse 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Satchel
Layer with a sweater over a button up and add a coat and some heat-tech tights if it’s a chillier day!
poncho T.J. Maxx {similar splurge and steal}, pants J.Crew, gloves T.J. Maxx {similar}, clutch Heather Belle {similar style}, flats J.Crew, headscarf Three Bird Nest’s Etsy Shop

This last outfit has to be one of my favorites. I love the skinny pants with the black poncho. It’s so comfortable for running errands and the mustard gloves are perfect when it’s a little colder. I love that you could also wear this for a dinner out. Just add a clutch and some heels! Click here to read the article on Refinery 29. Do you have any go-to layering outfits for your city?

Excited it’s almost the weekend! Matthew and I are headed down to San Diego to celebrate an early Christmas with his family. Looking forward to doing some double celebrating (and eating!). I hope you all have a great one!
