Last weekend I resolved to finally get my office space together. Since we moved, this room has been kind of a disaster. It’s been a holding spot for boxes, books, and tech supplies I don’t even know why we still have. One thing I know about myself is that I need a clean and organized space to be productive. I gain so much clarity when I’m working in a space that’s tidy and serves its purpose. So I took last Saturday as a chance to finally get it a little more together. It still has a ways to go but I feel like this is a pretty good start.
Here are some of my office essentials:
1). Storage is probably the most important thing! I like having designated spaces for mail, receipts, and documents I need to take care of. Magazine files are great for holding inspirational catalogs, but they’re also an easy spot for incoming mail. I try to put all my pens and pencils back after I use them in a cute pencil cup. It makes it easy so I’m not always losing them (and blaming Matthew for stealing them!). Putting together this desk for what seems like the millionth time since I got it {home, apartment 1, 2 and now house 1}, I’ve realized drawers are a must for my desk. Those Parsons desks are cute but I need a little more drawer space. I fitted my drawer with a cute mint tray with polka dot lining. It’s handy for holding little odds and ends, like measuring tape or matches for my candles. I also love this IKEA bookcase and I have it fitted with even more storage. This pink and gold desk calendar that sits on top has been a favorite this year!
2). Good lighting is essential. Make sure you can see what you’re doing with a lamp that has specific task lighting or ambiance room lighting. Candles also help when you’re working until the wee hours of the morning {cough it’s 2:25am right now!}. This candle from Anthropologie makes those late nights a little more bareable, especially since it’s one of my favorite scents!
3). A comfy chair. You need a nice little spot to take a break from the computer, chat with friends, read your mail, or tear through magazines. It’s also a good placeholder for your purse!
4) Decorative objects. If you have to sit down to finish a project and get stuff done it’s helpful to be in a space that you love. I love quirky pieces like this paper mache unicorn head. It’s gold and so fun. Every time I look at it, I can’t help but smile! I also love this gold wishbone that sits next to a brass shoe I found in Austin last year.
5) Notebooks! You need to be able to jot down ideas once you have them, even if you’re working on something totally unrelated. I love these travel sized journals because they’re perfect to go from desk to purse. Plus one is floral and one is polka dot!

It was so nice to start the month with a clean and organized space. Ginger loves the room too, especially because she thinks this black and white striped rug is just for her. Every time she comes in, she flops her cute little fluffy body down. Or she’ll bring me her ball. That girl always wants to play fetch!
I’d love to hear your office organization tips if you have any! And stop by PBteen’s blog today! I’m doing a guest post on my office.
Happy Thursday everyone!
