Los Angeles is a city with warm weather year round, therefore, summer doesn’t mean I’m extra motivated to spend time outdoors. I, sadly, often take the summer months for granted. However, in an effort to make the most of June-August, I decided to make some plans over the course of a weekend because, let’s face it, the beach in July is much better than the beach in November. The Venice Canals are a cool part of LA that I’ve heard of but never visited. I’ve seen photos, knowing that it exists, but had to check it out for myself. Ginger was in need of some quality walking time, so we planned a fun morning walk in Venice. If you can’t go to Venice, Italy, go to Venice, California. It was so fun to walk around, take a peek at the pretty canal-front homes, and watch the ducks. I wore this gauzy and flowy skirt from Old Navy with one of their light sweater tops. It was perfect since I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a chilly morning.

A bustling boardwalk on a summer day can be the best place for exercise, people-watching and trinket shopping. I thought it would be fun to play tourist in my own beach city by taking a trip to The Strand. Dressed in a linen blend button-up from Old Navy, some old favorite denim shorts and classic espadrilles, I came with my camera, an appetite for seafood and a swimsuit..just in case! We found a great little chowder and taco spot and we brought our food to the beach to soak in some rays.

Growing up by the beach, Matthew is always looking for an excuse to get on the water. We live so close to the Marina and yet we’ve never gone on one of the boats. For Christmas we bought an online deal and since the year is half up we thought now was the perfect time to use it! For our evening boat ride, I wore this long blue maxi from Old Navy with a pair of neutral wedges. This hat of theirs was great for keeping the sun out of my eyes, too. I loved having an evening off land with some rosé, cheese and crackers. It was so relaxing and it made me realize that this is what summer is all about!

Planning weekends like this one is what makes summer so fun and memorable. I loved enjoying a few days outside and by the water. The best part about it? I didn’t get sunburned! Hooray!
