Mother’s Day is coming up fast and after brainstorming some fun gift ideas to give my mom, I also thought it would be fun to host a little happy hour before heading to dinner. My mom is a big fan of whiskey cocktails, so in an effort to make it fun and feminine I decided to make a strawberry and white peach whiskey smash.
I used Clyde May’s bourbon whiskey, which is one of Matthew’s favorites. It has an interesting history too! Clyde May was a World War II veteran who, upon his return to Alabama after the war, began making his whiskey recipe in small batches with the addition of green apple. Clyde operated as a moonshiner and distributed his whiskey to friends and family, starting in 1946. Because it was illegal at the time, he ended up spending eight months in jail. Even still, on the day of his release, he took up his operation again. 70 years later Clyde’s son revived the family business and honored his dad’s legacy by producing legal whiskey from the original recipe. Isn’t that so cool?! I love hearing about the passion that goes into business from day one.
This cocktail is tart and fruity and I love the addition of muddled white peaches and fresh strawberries. The lemon juice provides the perfect amount of tartness that’s balanced with honey as a sweetener. I would highly recommend this cocktail! It’s the perfect drink to toast the mother figures in our lives who have done so much for us!
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 peach slices, 2 strawberries, mint, honey and lemon juice. Mash with a muddler, or the back of a spoon, until fruit breaks down. Stir in bourbon.
Add ice to double old-fashioned glass, and pour in cocktail. Top with seltzer water and remaining peach and strawberries slices.

If you try this cocktail, let me know what you think! I have a feeling you’ll love it!
