Whether or not you realize it, most of us have certain rituals that we carry out on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. Some are basic rituals, like writing a morning To-Do list, others are more complex, like spring cleaning. They might be more thought out, like planning a certain holiday party every year, or they might be second nature, like hanging your clothes up after you wear them.
I just finished reading The Happiness Project and it made me realize how important these rituals are to our overall quality of life. I thought I’d share some of my Beauty, Fashion, and Fitness Rituals with you here, in the hopes that maybe it will inspire some of your own.
BEAUTY RITUALS
DAILY- Wash my face. Washing my face twice a day is a really important step to my beauty routine. Even if I am so exhausted, I will still wash my face. It’s comforting and soothing but I know it’s also good for me since the product I apply afterwards is able to absorb into my skin overnight.
WEEKLY- Using a good shampoo and conditioner throughout the week is so important for hair care. I’ve been using the Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo & Conditioner and it’s been really great. It makes my hair feel really hydrated, soft and smooth all day long. The antioxidant system also makes hair stronger and healthier with every wash, which I’m really excited about! After the summer heat my hair needs a little extra TLC! Also, one of my favorite hair tips I picked up is to leave Pantene’s Daily Moisture Renewal Conditioner in at night, by braiding it into my hair, and then rinsing it out in the morning. It’s a miracle worker for dry hair!
MONTHLY- Clean makeup brushes. Over the course of a month there is so much product, and even bacteria, that can accumulate on your makeup brushes. It’s so important to keep them clean, so on the last weekend of every month I make sure to wash them thoroughly with water and some shampoo. Then I let them sit out and dry so that I can use them for the week ahead. If you’ve been breaking out lately, consider washing your brushes!
FASHION RITUALS
DAILY- I love planning outfits {obviously!}, and it brings me back to my days working as a stylist. Before going to bed each night, I plan the outfit I’m going to wear for the following day by pulling it out of my closet and hanging it up on the door. It makes my morning routine go a lot more smoothly and, when it’s cold outside, it helps me get into my outfit more quickly!
WEEKLY- Pinterest sessions! I have a huge Pinterest addiction and I love looking for outfit inspiration there. Matthew and I usually stay in on Friday nights to decompress from the week so it’s the perfect opportunity for me to go on Pinterest and save some Outfit Inspiration. Lately, I’ve been pinning a lot of Fall Styles!
MONTHLY- Clean closet! Every month I go through my closet and analyze what I have, what I’m wearing, and most importantly what I’m not wearing. I’ll make piles of clothes to donate, sell, or give away to friends and family members. Doing this on a regular basis is so crucial to my sanity, especially since my closet isn’t that big. I hate when I can’t see my clothes in my closet, and when I have things I’m not wearing I like to find a proper home for them.
HEALTH & FITNESS RITUALS
DAILY- Walks with Ginger. Ginger and I have a fun little routine that involves a morning walk. I usually wake up, go to the bathroom, put on my clothes and shoes, and then we’re out the door. We take a nice 10- to 15-minute walk that helps wake me up and get me moving. Ginger loves it especially because she can see her dog friends in the neighborhood and see what new smells are going on.
WEEKLY- Sunday mornings after church are for menu planning! I get a cup of coffee and gather up my cookbooks and food magazines. Then, I go through and plan meals for the week and at the same time I write a grocery list. I’m usually calling out to Matthew, “Do we have any garlic?” “What about fettuccini?” Then, it’s off to the store to stock up!
MONTHLY- Maintaining a monthly yoga membership has been such a blessing this past year. I feel so lucky to have gotten back into my yoga practice. It’s not just beneficial for my body, but it’s good for my mind and spirit as well. I can have the busiest and craziest day but then an hour on my mat can totally turn things around. Yoga has also helped me with my back issues by increasing my flexibility and strength.
Do you have any Beauty, Fashion, or Health & Fitness rituals? I’d love to hear in the comments below!
