February gives me all the mushy feels for my husband Matthew! I really feel so lucky that I found a partner who is smart, kind, hard-working, and loving. Our personalities are quite similar, but they also provide differences that balance each other out. Today I’m sharing our favorite weekend routine, along with the Movado Bold Motion, Engineered by HP, a watch that’s the perfect balance between style and function. This watch would make a perfect Valentine’s Day gift for your guy!
Lately, Matthew and I have been spending our weekend working on home projects, which isn’t incredibly glamorous but we gotta get stuff done! We’ll have one day that’s spent in cleaning clothes, going back and forth from one home improvement store to another. On these weekends, we’ll try to make sure we can have at least one fun day where we’re out exploring.
One of our favorite things to do on the weekend is drive around and explore different areas in Los Angeles. We’ll stop for a coffee, always, to keep us going, and then check out bookshops, antique stores, and usually a surf shop for Matthew. It’s fun to explore together and enjoy our time off together. We also try to spend this day phone-free. A few years ago Matthew and I decided that “no phones on date nights” rule was a must. Now, that transitions into adventure days. Besides the occasional photo, we’ll keep texting and social media at bay until we’re back at home.
Matthew got the new Movado Bold Motion Watch, Engineered by HP and it’s actually a great way to stay connected while being offline. The smart watch is a completely functional analog watch, with the “smart” function coming from vibration feedback and visual cues from tiny blue or white LED lights around the inside edge. Matthew can get notified about what’s important, and set up notifications for things he can get to later. If someone important emails/texts, Matthew will be alerted in a subtle way that won’t totally ruin our day. If Matthew has a meeting that he forgot about, with a contractor or handyman, the watch will give him a calendar reminder by blinking specific LEDs between the minute hand and meeting time. Also, since Matthew has been upping his fitness this year, the watch can show how close he is to his daily step goal.
Matthew was a little daunted by the thought of learning a new tech language but it was surprisingly simple to grasp. I especially love that the watch works like a watch, and no one will notice it’s smart capabilities, except for him, because they’re so subtle. Plus, the design of the watch itself is sleek and minimalistic, and works really well for Matthew’s personal style.

Have you and your partner created a no-tech rule yet? As apprehensive as I was at first, I would highly recommend it. It’s so important to spend time together without being too distracted by your phones. I know I’ve been guilty of this in the past, but I also tell myself I can take a photo and then just post it later.
