One of the things I love about Los Angeles is how many great restaurants there are! One of my favorite restaurants is Fig & Olive on Melrose Place. A lunch here makes for a perfect afternoon because afterwards you can grab an iced latte at Alfred Coffee and window shop at some of the amazing boutiques. But, back to this lunch! Kimber and I went the other week for a fun girl’s date and we were dying over their incredible spring menu. Everything was so delicious and fresh. I already can’t wait to go back! Read on to hear more about our lunch at Fig and Olive.
This PROVENCAL CARROT & THYME SOUP was my absolute favorite. It had heirloom baby carrots, celery, onion, garlic, thyme & olive oil croutons. I loved how savory it all was!
We also got a trio of crostinis including the MUSHROOM WITH ARTICHOKE, TRUFFLE & PARMESAN, the SHRIMP WITH AVOCADO, CILANTRO & TOMATO, and the PROSCIUTTO CROSTINI WITH RICOTTA, FIG, OLIVES & WALNUTS.
For greens we got the BURRATA & ASPARAGUS with Burrata, asparagus, snow peas, hazelnuts, arugula, and a micro-basil blood orange dressing.
We also shared the FIG & OLIVE SALAD {always a classic!}, with manchego, gorgonzola dolce, fig, apple, tomato, walnuts, olives, romaine, mesclun, scallions, and a fig balsamic.
I love how each meal begins with a trio of distinct extra virgin olive oils with freshly baked rosemary olive oil fougasse bread.
OCTOPUS A LA GALLEGA – Thinly sliced braised octopus with marinated bell peppers, heirloom potatoes, black olives, arugula, and pimenton lemon dressing. Yum!
Even though we were absolutely stuffed, we couldn’t resist dessert. If you know me, I’ll always find room for something sweet! We decided to share the Fig & Olive Tasting with four bite sized pieces of the PEAR CROSTINI, CHOCOLATE POT DE CRÈME, CRUNCHY PRALINE & CLEMENTINE VACHERIN. Let me just say that the Chocolate Pot de Crème is out of this world good. You have to try it! It’s to die for incredible!
Fig & Olive has such a fresh menu in general, with dishes that are all about the unique flavors of the Mediterranean. The spring menu takes it to another level, though! Even if you’re not in LA, check out some of the other Fig & Olive locations. I went to the one in NYC for Valentine’s Day the other year and it was also amazing!
I love sharing my favorite restaurants with you, especially since I always get a lot of emails from readers about what to do in LA. That post is coming soon too, I promise! Have you been to Fig & Olive before? I’d love to hear what you ate and liked!
Another LA favorite: Stir Market!
