Goodness! Who can believe it’s the first of December?! The days are definitely flying by right now. Every year I get so excited to decorate for the holidays, and this year is no exception. We’re still needing to get our Christmas tree, but I already started getting the house together. I actually started before Thanksgiving {shh!}. Today I’m sharing my 5 Ways to Decorate for the Holidays. Have you started decorating yet?
5 Ways to Decorate for the Holidays
- ADD COZY DETAILS
When it’s chilly outside, there’s nothing better than snuggling up at home on the couch. I love bringing out our tartan wool throw and our fuzzy pillows! One day I’m hoping we’ll have a fireplace and then our house will be even more cozy!
My mugs are from 2011 but here’s a similar style that’s even cuter!
2. BRING IN NATURE
I absolutely love going to our local nursery and ordering fresh pine garlands. I get to choose exactly how long I want it to be, so it’s perfect for putting on our shelves, or dining room table. The garland lasts awhile and makes the whole house smell amazing! I also found out that Trader Joe’s sells fresh garlands too!
Another way to bring in nature is decorate with pinecones. I collected a bunch when we were in Lake Tahoe last year and during the holidays I’ll add them to bowls and vases.
This velvet dress is so pretty and festive! I also added double velvet with these heels that are under $50!
I love any opportunity to bring out our wedding china!
This polka dot vase holds flowers in spring and summer, and pinecones in the fall!
3. LIGHT CANDLES
Candles are my favorite throughout the year, but during the fall and winter they are crucial! I love when the weather finally starts to cool down and I can go and buy some pumpkin scented ones. This year I fell in love with this candle from an indie company in San Diego started and run by two best friends. Their Cozy candle smells like cinnamon, ginger and cardamom. Another favorite is this one right here!
Poinsettias are a traditional holiday flower so I put a pot inside, as well as on our front porch. They also make a great gift for neighbors!
4. INCORPORATE HOLIDAY PRINTS
Bring on the plaid! I love this holiday tartan bedding! Every year I tell myself I’m going to make our bedroom more holiday-like and this year was it! I also got these pillowcases with the black trim because they’re great year round. Then I moved the fuzzy pillow from our couch to our bed.
5. MAKE A PLAYLIST
Once Thanksgiving is over, we listen to Christmas songs nonstop around here! Are you the same? These are some of my favorite holiday songs. What are some of yours?
Happy December everyone! I hope this holiday season is magical for all of you!
