add some flowers to your acai for an aesthetic touch - M Loves M @marmarFor the past few years, acai bowls have been all the rage, especially living in Southern California. I’ve always gone out and bought them when I’ve had a craving but they can be hit or miss- sometimes they’re too overpriced or I’ll wait in a 30-minute line. No one has time for that! I heard they’re super easy to make at home so I decided to give it a try. If you’re interested in how to make your own acai bowl, keep reading!

Make Your Own Acai Bowl

makes 2

INGREDIENTS

2 Sambazon Acai packets

1/2 cup apple juice

1 1/2 frozen banana

1/2 cup frozen strawberries

1/2 fresh or frozen berries

1/4 teaspoon organic agave

DIRECTIONS

Run each frozen packet under water for 10-20 seconds to soften it up. Add the ingredients to a blender {I used a Vitamix} and blend them up! The acai can feel hard to blend at first but this amount of liquid will be just enough to give the correct consistency. You don’t want it to be too thin! If your blender is having a bit of trouble, though, add a little more liquid, a tablespoon at a time.

Add your toppings! Here are some of my favorites that I always have on hand:

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Fresh banana
  • Fresh berries
  • Coconut shavings
  • Oat + Honey Granola
  • Organic Agave
  • Goji berries
  • Cocoa nibs
  • Chia seeds
  • Bee pollen
  • Almond butter

I love using a combination of these toppings. You could also make a more tropical acai bowl with pineapple, mango, and kiwi, and instead of using almond milk you could use coconut milk. No matter the toppings, your acai bowl will be delicious. And you’ll probably crave it daily!

Have you made an acai bowl at home before? What are your favorite toppings? I’d love to know for next time!

P.S. I made a festive 4th of July acai bowl yesterday!
