Summer is coming! Like seriously, it is right around the corner. We barely even had a spring in SoCal, it’s been so gloomy. So I am looking forward to more warm days. And I’m looking forward to fun summer events like weddings, vacations, and date nights! Usually I think of needing a party dress for the holiday season, but I feel like summer can be even more fun to dress for! Especially when you can shop for cute summer party dresses!

I felt ready to hit the dance floor when I put on this dress! Maybe I just need to get out more sans babies, but either way, this dress just felt so fun. I realized it was just dressy enough for a wedding or graduation party, but soft and light for hot days. Let’s be honest, a bunch of tulle and sequins is not going to feel great when the humidity picks up! I was thinking about what makes up the perfect party dress and I found three details I think make all the difference!
Embrace a bold print! I love that this dress had large pink polkadots instead of tiny ones. I love any polkadot print, but this one felt extra special. I think even the most basic little cotton dress can feel party ready if you add a festive print. This poppy red and pink floral dress is the perfect example. Florals are pretty, but when they are graphic and contrasting, they are even better!
Color
You can’t go wrong with a little black dress. If you follow along on Instagram, you know that I am wearing a lot of black lately since I’m taking care of two little ones who tend to spill their food! However, if I was kid free I would be wearing more bright colors. Like this really sultry slip dress in my favorite shade of yellow! I am seriously so obsessed with that shade I actually wore it last week!
Ruffles
You’ll notice this dress has a gorgeous ruffle on the hem that literally screams “dance floor”! I think adding an extra feminine touch and taking advantage of fabrics you can easily move in is key. I kinda love that this dress has ruffles on the skirt and sleeves! But if you just want a little bit of ruffle, I think this wrap dress is so flattering and gorgeous.
