Red is one of my favorite colors and while I wear it frequently on my lips, I often don’t wear it in clothing form. It’s a color that’s so fun to accent with that sometimes I forget about wearing it as the main outfit highlight. {although remember this red plaid dress from last fall?}
When I went into Ted Baker the other week to pick out an outfit for their Fall Collection Preview, this dress immediately stuck out to me. 1). It’s made of lace, 2). It has the most perfect peter pan collar, and 3). it is red!!
This dress was beautiful on it’s own but then pair it with this tan cape with the lace sleeves sticking out and it’s just too perfect. It might be a little warm for the cape right now but trust me you’ll want to have this in a few weeks. Also, this cape sold out super quickly last year so now is the perfect time to get it!
Do you have anything fun planned this weekend? Matthew and I are going up to San Francisco for a fun project and I can’t wait. I love any chance to visit that city and see friends and family. As hard as it was to move away, it’s nice to be just an hour plane ride away!
One of the things I love about living in LA is being surrounded by so many creative people. Going to events weekly I meet the most interesting people who have started their own businesses, have created product lines, partnered with mega brands, and people who are doing things no one else is. Most of the ones I meet are fellow women so there’s a lot of girl power energy in the air. One of those #girlbosses that I’ve met and loved is Jaimi Brooks from Fiore Beauty. Jaimi started this luxury beauty agency which provides quality services to you whether you’re at home, in a hotel, on set. It’s perfect for an event {wedding party!}, or just for fun!
Jaimi and I were talking about collaborating on some different hairstyles and had a fun beauty day putting them together. For the first one, we’re doing a Messy Fishtail Braid which is perfect for this late-summer heat wave. You need your hair off the back of your neck! Also, this look would be perfect for a beach day!
Place hair into a secure ponytail at the center of the back of your head. Redken Braid Aid is a great product to put throughout the pony to help add grip to the braid and define it.
STEP 3//
Separate the hair into two main sections, left and right.
STEP 4//
Take a small piece from the outside of the right section and cross it over to combine with the left section. Then take a small piece fro, the outside of the left section and cross it over to combine with the right section. Continue until the braid is complete.
STEP 5//
Secure bottom braid with a hairband.
STEP 6//
Fan out or pull on each side of braid all the way down for fullness.
Is it just me or do denim mini skirts make you think of those early ’00 days of Britney Spears loving, N*Sync listening, Abercrombie wearing, and general teen crazyness? Don’t worry, it’s not a bad blast from the past! Denim mini skirts are back but they’re better than before. Way better! Why? Because they got length to them! If only you could see my face when I found my old denim mini at the back of my bedroom closet. I wore this?! It was basically just a foot of fabric that apparently covered my little 13-year old booty. I’d look for photos to share as proof, but that’s a little too scary! And embarrassing!
Denim mini skirts are coming back into popularity though and they’re proving to be the perfect bottom to wear when you’re wanting to stay comfortable but beat the late summer heat. I like that this pencil skirt style is high-waisted, too, making it extra easy to wear. I paired it with a loose polka dot button up, and a pair of glitter loafers because why not? Regular brown loafers are too boring when compared to sparkly metallic ones!
To be honest, I gotta give some of credit to LOFT for this outfit. I went in to the store and saw this polka dot top paired with the skirt on a mannequin and had to recreate it. I swear I’m usually much more creative but they had a good thing going for them. I have big plans for this polka dotted top though…just you wait!
