honeymoon adventures in assisi

June 13, 2011
After three busy days in Rome Matthew and I were really looking forward to the countryside. We had rented a villa right near Assisi and it sounded perfect..until we got there. It was definitely not how it was  described online; the towels were hard and stiff, the bedding felt damp, there were hardly any lights, the stove didn’t turn on, the refrigerator didn’t work, the shower was kind of gross- I could go on and on. Not to mention, the guy who owned it seemed like a complete weirdo! We got out of there as fast as possible and went into Assisi to look for wireless in the hopes of contacting the villa rental company. We met the nicest people in Assisi, from the lady who walked us over to a tourist office, to the man who found us a great deal on an apartment for the night. Matthew and I ended up falling in love with Assisi and we were so glad everything worked out as it did because we were able to live in this beautiful hill town for a couple days and just explore.
I didn’t even think to pack socks and it got so cold one day that I had to wear Matthew’s blue ones!

I still want to share some photos from the countryside, Florence and the Amalfi Coast, so I’m going to work those in over the next week or so. Since I can’t post wedding photos just yet, it’s the next best thing, right?  🙂
I hope you had a wonderful weekend! It was very June Gloomy in LA, and still is today. We should be finding out about that apartment this afternoon and I’m crossing my fingers and toes. I’ll let you all know what happens!

honeymoon adventures in rome

June 3, 2011
It’s hard to believe that we’ve been back from our honeymoon for a little over a week now. Matthew and I had the most amazing time in Italy and I can’t wait to share some of our photos. I’m going to break my posts up into sections about the areas we traveled to, starting with Rome. Matthew and I luckily had a couple days in between the wedding and honeymoon which was amazing. I would highly recommend this for brides and brides to be. {There is so much going on the week of the wedding that it’s almost impossible to separate yourself from everything you’re doing to pack and get ready for the honeymoon. Having a couple days in between helped us manage everything a little better.} We flew into Rome and were there for 3 days. Our hotel {Hotel Abruzzi} was in the best location…right across from the Pantheon! It was so great to wake up and hear all the people bustling about, and smell espresso brewing downstairs at Tazza d’Oro. After adjusting to the major jet lag we had so much fun walking around and exploring the city!
figuring out how to buy a bus pass
so excited I just can’t hide it!
mailing a postcard home from Vatican City
just chillin’ at the Colosseum taking in the 85 degree heat
the best cappuccino from Sant Eustachio
Matthew’s favorite gelateria in all of Italy, Cremeria Monteforte
Rome was a very busy city with lots of international tourists. There was so much to see, do and eat, and we tried to fit in as much as we could. By the end of the three days we were ready for the more laid back vibe of the countryside. That will be part 2!

wedding wednesday: honeymoon plans!

March 9, 2011
Planning a wedding is fun and all, but I’m much more excited about the honeymoon! Matthew and I have been doing so much research figuring out where we wanted to go, and what the weather would be like in May {had to X out the Caribbean because of hurricane season}. Over the weekend we bit the bullet and bought our plane tickets! So I guess it’s official!! Can you guess where we’re going?
Yep, ITALY! I am seriously jumping up and down over here! I’ve never been but always dreamed of going. It’s such a beautiful and romantic country and being there with Matthew will be absolutely perfect. We’re already dying thinking about all the amazing food we’ll be eating. I’m expecting to gain 10 pounds at least! Don’t say I didn’t warn you. I’ll get back and you’ll be like, “Whoa what happened to her?” A lot of pasta, pizza, and gelato, that’s what! I’m going to find myself a pasta mama and get her to teach me all her secrets! I’ll call her Nonna {grandma} and she’ll call me her dolce ragazza {sweet girl}! {Yeah, I’m pretty much planning the conversations in my head and everything}. We’re flying into Rome for a couple days and then we’re staying at a villa in Assisi, although we’ll be traveling throughout the country. oh.my.gosh it really hasn’t sunk in yet!
If any of you have been to Italy, or have friends/family who have been, please please pretty please send any and all recommendations over! We’d love to know the best places to stay, eat, shop, etc. It’s much more helpful when you have someone who has been there knows the insider secrets. I’ll love you forever and ever!
