Goodbye 2015: Highlights from the Year

December 31, 2015

reflecting on 2015 and the new year M Loves M
New Years Eve always feels a little bittersweet to me. As excited as I am for a new year and a new start, I get sad about memories from the year moving further away. This year was full with the normal amount of highs and lows, but luckily it seems to have been a lot better than 2014! That year was a tough one over here!

Lisbon Portugal Travel Guide M Loves M @marmar

It’s hard to believe we’ve been back in California for two weeks. Our trip to Portugal was so incredible and I’m so happy we were able to start and end our trip in the capitol city of Lisbon. As some of you know, I’m 50% Portuguese because of my Dad and his family. All my life I’ve dreamed of going to Portugal to connect with my heritage and see the places my family lived way back when.  Matthew and I had been talking about making a trip on and off for years and then we just decided to do it. It was a real seize the day sort of situation. I’m so glad we did because this was by far the best experience of my life. I have to say it even tops dog sledding in Juneau, as cool as that was!

Read on to see lots of pictures from our Lisbon Portugal Travel Diary, as well as recommendations for things to do and places to eat.

updating a classic outfit combination M Loves M @marmar
One of those classic, can’t beat it, outfit combinations has to be a white tee and jeans. It just works! When I’m wanting to wear something classic and comfortable that’s usually what I reach for. In an effort to mix it up just a little bit, I looked for some updated pieces to my favorite classics.

These patchwork jeans from Old Navy are so fun and such a nice switch from my typical skinny jeans. They’re distressed but the floral patchwork detail adds a fun element, that’s perfect for fall. Likewise, instead of a white tee, I paired my jeans with a lace blouse. The detail is feminine and looks good with skirts as well as jeans. I think it could also work underneath a shift dress, when you’re wanting to layer a little bit more.

Do you have an outfit
combination that you typically reach for? It’s fun to think of different ways
to update them. I think next time instead of a t-shirt dress, I’m going to wear a shirt dress. It’s a small change but it makes a difference.

P.S. These photos were taken in New York City on our apartment’s fire escape. I am a little afraid of heights so walking out there with heeled boots scared the heck out of me! Thank you Val for encouraging me to take a risk for these photos! I love when you’re the daredevil to my scardy cat, like when we went on a helicopter ride in Alaska! Scary but worth it!
