casual mom style - M Loves M @marmar

Happy Sunday and happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there! I think Matthew is talking about going out for lunch which will be fun. I don’t think I’ve mentioned that my mother-in-law has been living with us, so that makes the day that much more special to be together. Missing my mom in Los Angeles though!! Gah it’s hard to spend holidays apart.

Here’s a little recap of our week:

WHAT WE ATE

my plan is to share the meals I made the previous week, with links if possible, as some inspiration for your own menu planning.

MONDAY- Balsamic Grilled Skirt Steak with Charred Tomatoes– Matthew was obsessed! He said we need to make this once a week, which you know by now is a top compliment!

TUESDAY- Easy Skillet Cheesy Green Chile Enchilada Bake– I used 1 poblano instead of 2 (pre-roasting it), and it was yummy! Such an easy, crowd-pleaser.

WEDNESDAY- Chicken Tzatziki Bowls – This was the surprise favorite of the week! I love Greek food and while it’s not Matthew’s favorite, he really liked this one! Also, the kids loved the chicken that was grilled in this yummy yogurt and turmeric marinade.

THURSDAY- Crispy Oven Pork Sliders with Coleslaw Salad and homemade Hawaiian sweet rolls– You might remember we’ve made this recipe a few times. It’s one of Augustine’s favorites and always requested.

FRIDAY- Meatloaf and Potato Salad- from this cookbook. Somewhat similar to this recipe of hers but would highly recommend trying the cookbook version. Corinna is our most particular eater and she ate the whole thing up which is not typically how things go around here.

SATURDAY- Burger Night with salad and sweet potato fries

SUNDAY- Creamy Bacon and Tuscan Shrimp with fresh sourdough {from this cookbook}

cookies with a glass of cold milk will always be a favorite treat!

WHAT I WORE

We are definitely at the end of our spring weather because the temperatures are rising fast! It seemed like our spring was so short, but we enjoyed some fun thundershowers and lightning storms this week. One day I was in a rain jacket and the next in shorts and a tee {I wear the heathered oat one all the time}. It will be interesting to see what our summer weather is like but it’s typically very hot and dry.

Margaux is one of my favorite shoe brands and I just got this Downtown Boot. I had my eye on this pair of slides and these sandals but I feel like my wardrobe is really missing a classic everyday boot and these look so perfect with the suede and stacked heel. I feel like it’s a boot I can wear any season and I love how comfortable they are.

This striped tee has held up for several years. It has a great comfortable and soft material and I can wear it year-round.

ON MY MIND

This week I took Corinna out for some special mommy/daughter time. It was so nice to catch up with her and she loved getting a special steamer latte {foamed milk with cinnamon and honey}. How cute are her little flower sunglasses?!

We spent a lot of time outside this week with picnic lunches and dinner on our patio. You really appreciate spring after a long winter!

Lots of snuggles with my tiniest girl too! How cut are those baby bell bottoms? They were a hand-me-down from a cousin and Corinna wore them too.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

post ballet hugs - M Loves M @marmar

I hope you all are enjoying your weekends! Yesterday was a busy day with baseball and Augustine’s end-of-year music recital. It’s hard to believe that we’re already wrapping up the year. While baseball and ballet will continue for the next month, our school co-op and music classes are ending until the fall. Hard to believe when it feels like spring hasn’t even started! We did pick up some lettuce starts, though, and planted those outside yesterday. We’re still tending to our indoor seedlings that aren’t ready to go outside yet. Last year I had such little energy for gardening and while it’s been harder to find the time this year, it’s been something I’ve enjoyed doing. I didn’t take advantage of California’s amazing growing seasons, but now I wish I had!

Here’s a little recap of our week:

WHAT WE ATE

my plan is to share the meals I made the previous week, with links if possible, as some inspiration for your own menu planning.

MONDAY- Creamy Spring Salmon with Dill and Orzo- I love cooking with tons of fresh herbs in the springtime. This recipe is a keeper for sure!

TUESDAY- Crockpot Shredded Carne Asada Lettuce Cup Tacos with Mexican Coleslaw– I felt like our lettuce was too bitter so I didn’t love these as much in the lettuce cups. I think they were better in the corn tortillas!

WEDNESDAY- BBQ Chicken Skewer Salad– The dressing was so absolutely delicious! Matthew wants me to make it weekly so I know it made the cut!

THURSDAY- Thai Basil Beef with Rice Noodles

FRIDAY- Crockpot Chili Poblano– I wanted to make something easy to have before Augustine’s baseball game so I made this the night before. I love that chili improves the next day!

SATURDAY- Burger Night with sweet potato fries! Burger season is starting! It’s a night we all look forward to and I have a feeling we’ll usually be making these on Saturday nights. We love making sweet potato fries and a big salad to go alongside!

SUNDAY- Roasted Salmon with Broccoli

WHAT I WORE

We had some rain this week so I took advantage of wearing my favorite mac coat (currently on sale!) I also got the cutest hair clips from Shop Andi and I’ve been wearing this one daily! I love that it holds all of my hair, and is so cute too!

I love this striped tee! The color combo is the perfect neutral and it goes with everything! It’s also a great weight and feels like it will hold up nicely.

These pointy flats are a splurge but I’ve had this pair for the past 4 or 5 years and they’ve held up so well!

SALES TO NOTE

Anthropologie– Spring Decorating Event- Up to 40% off furniture, rugs, mirrors, and more!

ON MY MIND

I feel like I might be the only person who doesn’t have a pair of these leggings! Am I missing out? Since I’ve been living in activewear these days, I was thinking about getting the gray color. I also like this style in the java color too!

I have been squeezing the last precious drops out of my tinted moisturizer and realized I haven’t shared how much I like it. It’s been a daily must for me. I love how light and hydrating it is, despite our dry climate, and I especially love that it’s a clean formula. I’ve heard so much about this clean makeup brand and I’m thinking about picking up a few items. Have any of you tried it?? Thoughts?

As we’re wrapping up our homeschool year, I’m thinking about fall already and what curriculums we’ll be using. I’ve loved The Good and the Beautiful Math so we’ll continue with that for Augustine, and I’m also thinking about working in some of the Ambleside Online recommendations.

I did a bunch of baby clothes organization this week and I was sad to find several pieces from Corinna that Beatrice wasn’t able to wear because of their opposite seasons. Luckily there are a few, like the dusty pink Bebe Organic outfit below, that will work with tights. Why do they grow so quickly??

snow in april in idaho - M Loves M @Marmar

Happy Sunday friends! It’s been a nice but very quick week for whatever reason. Not by intention, just life, I wasn’t sharing on social media. I go through weeks where I have the time and desire to share, and other weeks I’m just wrapped up in home and school life that I don’t have time until 10pm when it feels too late to post anything. I’ll try to be more present on there this week. The weather is warming up so we started some indoor seeds, and also I direct sowed some cold-hardy plants. I waited until this little snow dusting above though. Last year, we were surprised with some snow in May so I’m not putting any of my warm-weather plants into the ground too soon.

WHAT WE ATE

my plan is to share the meals I made the previous week, with links if possible, as some inspiration for your own menu planning.

MONDAY- Black Bean Chili from Smitten Kitchen Keepers– so easy and the flavor was even better the next day!

TUESDAY- Sweet Potato and Black Bean Tacos- similar to this recipe

WEDNESDAY- Chile-Coconut Braised Beef with Cauliflower Rice- This was such a unique but delicious braise. We’ll definitely be making it again!

THURSDAY- Mendocino Copy-Cat Not so Fried Chicken Salad– Matthew loved this salad; he said I need to make it 3x a week which I take to mean it’s a winner! Winner winner chicken dinner 😉

FRIDAY- Pasta with Mushrooms and Spinach and Pinenuts – We used the Jovial gluten-free pasta which is actually such a good swap for regular pasta if you haven’t tried it before.

SATURDAY- dinner with friends. My friend Hannah made this crockpot chicken and it was so yummy! We all had tacos and burritos with all the fixings which was so fun!

SUNDAY- Mussels with Fennel and Saffron Broth and homemade sourdough

apple tart- M Loves M @Marmar penne with pine nuts and mushrooms - M Loves M @Marmar picked onions in a salad - M Loves M @Marmar

I made Browned Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies and a Salted Apple Tart over the weekend and both were so delicious! The cookies were a little sweet so I’d probably cut back on the sugar next time.

If you’re looking to level up your sandwich or salad game, you have to try these pickled red onions. They’re so delicious!

WHAT I WORE

I wore this thrifted House of Harlow lace top that I got when I was pregnant last summer. The brand isn’t the best fit for my personal style but I do like this maxi dress and these flats.

LOFT– 50% off + free shipping!

Everlane– up to 60% off favorites sale, including my favorite Mac coat! Also, I know we all have spring/summer on the brain, but this oversized sweater is so perfect for fall! Might be worth getting now on sale.

ON MY MIND

Augustine had his first baseball game this week which was so fun! He was first up to bat and got through all the bases to Home (is that how you say it?). He also caught some good ground balls and threw them to 1st. It’s been fun to watch him enjoy this sport that he’s been excited about for so long.

I finished this book, Memory Making Mom, and highly recommend it! It offered such good encouragement and gave me some sweet ideas for traditions to start in our family. I’m hoping that on our April date, Matthew and I can brainstorm through some of the end-of-chapter questions and suggestions.

We’ve been having Friday game nights and this Richard Scarry game has been such an enjoyable one for everyone! I love that it’s not competitive and focuses on team-building.

Even though we had some snow this week, I’m taking flannel sheets off the beds! I’m ready for crisp, light linens and windows open too please!

Baby Beatrice has been rolling both belly to back and back to belly now!

Ok, that’s it from me! Off to do some laundry and bake some bread while the children are napping. Then we’re going on a walk/bike ride because it’s supposd to be in the mid 70s this afternoon! Who could believe we started the week with snow?!

Have a wonderful week, friends!
