the guy’s holiday gift guide 2013

December 5, 2013

Hey! I’m not sure why Mara thinks it’s so tough to shop for guys. They’re pretty easy in my opinion. Girls on the other hand, are way more difficult to shop for. I grew up with lots of women- my mom and 3 sisters. Even still, when it comes to birthdays, Christmases, anniversary gifts, etc. it’s pretty tough. But fingers crossed this post is a little helpful for you all when it comes to shopping for guys.
So, really, you can’t go wrong with the basics (see my picks for the jacket, shoes, tie, and vest). A plaid button up is always a good option, as I pretty much live in them. Us guys don’t have a lot of variety in our closets (no skirts or dresses over here), so a variety in button-ups can’t be beat. The Slim Fit styles at J.Crew are also the best if your guy is a little more lanky (think long arms, skinny neck). This watch is under $100 and pretty cool in this muted gray color. Maybe a good hint for your guy who’s often late. ha! Some camo socks, like these guys, would be the perfect stocking stuffer (or any socks, really). Men can always use more socks, because there is nothing worse than socks with holes in them, IMHO.  I always have Mara go cologne shopping for me since I hate spending more than 5 minutes in a perfume/cologne store or department.  John Varvatos Vintage cologne  is my current go-to, because there is a big difference between smelling like a gentleman and smelling up an entire room when you walk in. That random contraption at the bottom is the best thing ever by the way. It’s a multi-tool that does a lot. I usually keep one with me at all times so I can do stuff.  Cut open boxes, tighten a screw, etc. If your dude is semi-handy, or the outdoor type, he’s probably already got one, or two, or three multi-tools. But if he actually uses them, he’ll definitely appreciate it. If he doesn’t own one, he should. I know because I have one in the car, one in my laptop bag, and one in Mara’s car (that she doesn’t even know is there haha). Like I said, they come in handy!

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask! Happy to help!

the girl’s holiday gift guide 2013

December 5, 2013
Girls are so much fun to shop for! Whether it’s my best friend, my mom, or one of my nieces, I always have fun picking things out for them. I included a variety of items above that I thought could work for the many women in your life, or maybe even for you! {Trust me, I have a few things in my cart in doubles- one for me and one for my friend!}
One of my favorite perfume brands is Tocca and while I’ve always been a Florence girl, Stella is my new favorite. It’s feminine and sweet with blood orange and white freesia notes. So pretty and Matthew loves it! At our annual holiday party {or whenever we have people over} Matthew and I make sure to have our cameras handy -there’s the DSLR, a drugstore disposable, and our Instax Mini. We haven’t been that good with using it recently but I think if I had a pink one I’d use it way more often! haha! A pretty silk blouse would make a special gift for my Mom, or this darling pair of black flats with the white bows. Home items are one of my favorite items to gift, especially if you know the recipients home/design style. I personally love this gold Bodum french press. And this heart mug has always been a favorite of mine! Wouldn’t it make a great gift with some loose leaf tea? Perfect stocking stuffer! Cute but warm winter essentials like these tech-friendly polka dot gloves, or this pom beanie, would be great for my cousins back east. What are you favorite items to gift your girls? Any go-to stores?
Check back later for a guy’s gift guide this afternoon. Matthew helped on that one since I think guys are a little challenging to shop for sometimes {cough all the time!}. I’m always asking him for some hints so I was so happy when he helped put it together! Stay tuned!

hers and his: holiday plaid

November 25, 2013
It’s time to break out your plaid, if you haven’t do so already! Plaid shirts are my favorite to wear casually with a pair of jeans and some flats during the day. Matthew feels the same, although swap the flats for “sneakers.”Just because you normally wear your plaid during the day, doesn’t mean you can’t break it out for a night look! Here’s how Matthew and I styled some holiday plaid for a date night!
Matthew’s wearing: top J.Crew,  jacket John Varvatospants Obey {and only $70!}, tie Nordstrom. shoes Topman {similar}
I’m wearing: top Madewell, skirt J.Crew, necklace Forever 21 {love this one for a holiday party}, bracelet J.Crew {similar}, shoes Seychelles, clutch Banana Republic

other favorite plaid things:
How was your weekend everyone? It felt too short, like always, but having Thursday to look forward to is definitely helping. I’m excited for this short work week and even more excited to celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday. I’ll be counting down the days until my favorite meal of the year!
