wedding wednesday: a tea party bridal shower

April 20, 2011
Last week Lizzie gave you a little intro to the bridal shower she so sweetly planned for me. It seriously was such a beautiful day, as you can see from the photos, and the time and effort these girls put into planning it still blows my mind. From homemade sandwiches, cupcakes, freshly brewed tea, hand sewn fabric napkins and fun games, every detail was well thought out.  I am so lucky to have such wonderful friends! {and boy will the pressure will on big time when it comes to planning their special days!} As Lizzie said, when we were little we had these adorable tea parties with our American Girl dolls. There were cucumber sandwiches, hot coco, episodes of I Love Lucy, and our favorite lemon cookies. We also looked and played the part in floral Easter Sunday dresses and straw hats. Because of our tea party history, this was the perfect theme for the shower!

One of the games we played was that we couldn’t say, “Matthew,” “bride,” or “wedding.” It was extremely hard for me and of course I lost in the first half hour. It was a happy and emotional day and I was so lucky to have had my close friends and family celebrating with me. I know I’m going to be even more emotional on the big day, but I’m going to try to hold it together! Can you believe there are only 2 more Wednesdays left before the wedding?? Countdown mode is on!

wedding wednesday: men’s fashion

April 6, 2011

Hey everyone, it’s the other M! Mara has kindly given me the reigns for today’s Wedding Wednesday post. It kinda makes sense because today we’re exploring men’s wedding fashion and I am the very excited Groom! I also wanted to do this because the big day is exactly a month away and I still haven’t put my suit together, or decided what my groomsmen will be wearing!! I’m not too worried, though. I have a lot of inspiration, and a feeling that the next two weeks will be very productive! Check out these pictures of suits and ties and let me know what you think. I think they’d look pretty sharp for a groom, groomsman, or anyone really.
I love brown, grey, and light blue suits. Although I do love wearing black suits, switching it up with these other colors adds some fun and makes it a little more casual (great for an outdoor wedding!). As far as ties go, I love solid knit ties for a classic, neat look, and pattern ties if you incorporate colors well and follow the shirt-tie-pattern rules. When done right, a bow tie really adds some old-fashioned pizazz. What do you guys think? I need another girl’s option, besides Mara’s!
Thanks to my sweet Bride-to-Be for letting me give my $.02. Have a great day everyone!
-Matthew

wedding wednesday: bachelorette weekend

March 30, 2011
As I mentioned on Monday, this past weekend my best friends and bridesmaids threw me a bachelorette weekend in gorgeous Santa Barbara! Ten of my dearest and closest friend made the journey from all over {New York, San Francisco, LA, San Diego, and even Oklahoma City}. I felt so loved and special! We stayed in the beautiful Canary Hotel, which blew me away from a design perspective. I’m officially inspired to recreate something similar in my future apartment with Matthew. There were Spanish, Moroccan, even African influences and the colors and patterns were perfectly matched. love love loved it!

texting Matthew at the end of the night!
I’m still majorly sleep deprived from the weekend but I have the most amazing memories to last a lifetime. I’m already wanting another trip with all these girls in a couple years. They were the best, most easy going group, and now I miss them all terribly!
{I also miss my Bachelorette crown!}
