July 2, 2023

mama and beatrice - M Loves M @MarmarHope you all are enjoying the first weekend of July! I had a girls’ brunch yesterday morning which was so nice, especially since baby could take a nap at home. It’s not often I can have time to catch up with my girlfriends so it really filled me up. We also had a family dinner last night which we always love. Today is for getting the house in order (read: laundry, dishes, vacuuming, meal prep) for a fun and busy 4th of July week. It’s one of our favorite times of the year!

Here’s a recap of our week:

WHAT WE ATE

I plan to share the meals I made the previous week, with links if possible, as some inspiration for your own menu planning.

MONDAY- Grilled Halloumi Salad– We love Halloumi cheese around here!

TUESDAY- Fish Taco Bowls – one of our favorites. It’s from this cookbook and after I made it the first time I wrote it out on a recipe card. That’s when you know you’ve found a keeper!

WEDNESDAY- Green Chili Pork Medallions- also from the above cookbook. I loved it with the mashed potatoes!

THURSDAY- Spicy Orange Sesame Chicken – This is one of Matthew’s favorite guilty pleasures from TJ’s but the ingredients aren’t the best. This was finally a version that he approved of so I’ll definitely be making it again!

FRIDAY- Pasta ‘Ncasciata – I had been saving this recipe tear-out from one of my food magazines so I was really happy to finally make it. It was so delicious and one I would definitely make again!

SATURDAY- Oven-Roasted Beef Barbacoa Taco Bowls- we had family over for dinner so this was a great meal to serve a crowd. Some of us had tacos and others had lettuce bowls with all the fixings!

SUNDAY- Cheddar Jalapeno Chicken Burgers with Guacamole

I made Joanna Gaines’s After School Banana Bread and wow, so good! It’s baked in an 8×8 pan and it was perfectly soft on the inside. It’s definitely a repeat!

WHAT I WORE

The temperatures are heating up so I’m trying to stay as cool as possible. I ordered this pair of white shorts that I know I’ll wear a bunch!

It’s espadrille season and if you need a pair, this brand makes the absolute best! I love how classic and comfortable they are!

ON MY MIND

I can’t believe it’s July! Seriously?! How?! These summer months are our favorite though and we’re all very excited for the 4th of July. I was thinking about making these berry cheesecake bars because I haven’t made cheesecake in forever, but then there’s something about a classic apple pie. What would you make for dessert?

The kids got their Kidpik boxes this week which is always the most exciting day for them! I love what they picked out for both kids – such great pieces for summer. You can use code MLOVESM for 50% off any new subscriber’s first box and 25% off all Kidpik SHOP purchases.

It’s been heating up over here so we’re aiming to get out of the house right after breakfast for a little walk. Augustine has been scootering and Corinna and I have been pushing our babies in strollers. Corinna has a mini stroller for one of her dolls and it’s the cutest thing to see her pushing it around. We talked about all the mom things! Corinna has been dressing herself these days and it’s fun to see her little style emerge. Right now, she loves wearing this pink tutu dress with a baseball hat! Also, miss Corinna gave herself a little haircut this week, much to my distress. I feel like it’s something most kids do at some point and luckily it wasn’t too bad. To be honest, I did very minimal shaping to fix things up.

This week we started getting into a Morning Time routine. I’ve been wanting to be more intentional about a few things this summer and morning time has been one of them. I have this devotional that we’re going through as a family, and it’s such a nice way to start our day together. This book talks more about Morning Time and it gave me the push I needed to just start, even if it’s imperfect.

Even though we’re starting a holiday week, I’m feeling like I still want to be as healthy as possible – minus those cheesecake bars! I’m looking at my favorite supplement brands to restock so I thought I’d link My Deals page here if you need any.

doen gingham dress - M Loves M @marmar

I hope you all had a lovely week! It’s always nice to have a short post-holiday week, don’t you think? Summer was in the air this week and I think it helped boost all of our spirits. I always get so excited the week after Memorial Day because I know June is around the corner and we’re about to create so many summer memories. While we don’t have any summer trips planned, it will be nice to enjoy being home and going on some local adventures.

Here’s a little recap of our week:

WHAT WE ATE

my plan is to share the meals I made the previous week, with links if possible, as some inspiration for your own menu planning.

MONDAY- Burgers with Sweet Potato Fries for Memorial Day

TUESDAY- Grilled Tri-Tip with Basil Vinaigrette and a Tuscan Bread and Tomato Salad – this bread salad is a mix between a Panzanella and a Caprese and it’s hands down one of our all-time favorite summer recipes!

WEDNESDAY- Meatloaf and Potato Salad – from this cookbook. Somewhat similar to this recipe of hers but would highly recommend trying the cookbook version.

THURSDAY- leftovers

FRIDAY- Roast Chicken with Feta and Cucumber Salad

SATURDAY- Garlic Ginger Shrimp Stir Fry with Coconut Rice

SUNDAY- Penne with the kid’s favorite pink sauce, homemade sourdough, and a big salad

I made this buttered pecan granola this week and it was SO yummy! Everyone loved it and kept asking for bowls throughout the day. Hard to resist!

WHAT I WORE

One of my favorite brands is Doen but it is a little bit pricey- justifiable if you read about their mission and ethical work practices. While I can’t buy their pieces that often I love looking for second-hand deals. This brown gingham dress was one of them from an Instagram friend. It’s made out of a lovely linen and it’s a perfect dress for wearing around the house, or belting it and adding sandals for running errands. Here are some favorites from the brand:

I’ve been loving my new summer sandals. They have the prettiest lace up detail and even come in a heel version! You can get the sandals here and also over here in white.

ON MY MIND

I have been having a hard time making working out a priority these days but I know how beneficial it is for me in so many ways. This week, however, I made it onto the elliptical twice and I feel like that’s a small but big accomplishment. What helped was that I watched Mamma Mia! on Amazon Prime while I was working out, which is one of my favorite movies. It’s such a feel-good musical and I love singing all the songs so it helped pass the time quickly. Looking forward to more workouts this week so I can develop a regular habit.

Wednesday was such a fun day. We picked up a new scooter for Augustine and went on a walk/ride along the Boise Greenbelt. The weather was so perfect and it was such a special time. I’ll probably think back to that day quite a bit.

We also rearranged our living room this week which has made a huge difference! It feels like the new layout works way better for our space and it just flows much more nicely. I think I should try rearranging some other rooms while I’m at it!

Beatrice has 4 teeth, which I think I mentioned last week. She also started saying Dada which is so precious! I love how she’ll move her mouth in an attempt to say it when she sees Matthew. I’m working hard to have Mama be her next word!

It’s my birthday week !! so I’m planning a little lunch date with Matthew and a manicure with a girlfriend. Thankful the Lord has blessed me with this beautiful life. While it can be full of challenges, He gives me peace and joy in everyday moments. I’m looking forward to seeing what this next year has in store!

Have a lovely rest of your weekend and a great week!

post ballet hugs - M Loves M @marmar

I hope you all are enjoying your weekends! Yesterday was a busy day with baseball and Augustine’s end-of-year music recital. It’s hard to believe that we’re already wrapping up the year. While baseball and ballet will continue for the next month, our school co-op and music classes are ending until the fall. Hard to believe when it feels like spring hasn’t even started! We did pick up some lettuce starts, though, and planted those outside yesterday. We’re still tending to our indoor seedlings that aren’t ready to go outside yet. Last year I had such little energy for gardening and while it’s been harder to find the time this year, it’s been something I’ve enjoyed doing. I didn’t take advantage of California’s amazing growing seasons, but now I wish I had!

Here’s a little recap of our week:

WHAT WE ATE

my plan is to share the meals I made the previous week, with links if possible, as some inspiration for your own menu planning.

MONDAY- Creamy Spring Salmon with Dill and Orzo- I love cooking with tons of fresh herbs in the springtime. This recipe is a keeper for sure!

TUESDAY- Crockpot Shredded Carne Asada Lettuce Cup Tacos with Mexican Coleslaw– I felt like our lettuce was too bitter so I didn’t love these as much in the lettuce cups. I think they were better in the corn tortillas!

WEDNESDAY- BBQ Chicken Skewer Salad– The dressing was so absolutely delicious! Matthew wants me to make it weekly so I know it made the cut!

THURSDAY- Thai Basil Beef with Rice Noodles

FRIDAY- Crockpot Chili Poblano– I wanted to make something easy to have before Augustine’s baseball game so I made this the night before. I love that chili improves the next day!

SATURDAY- Burger Night with sweet potato fries! Burger season is starting! It’s a night we all look forward to and I have a feeling we’ll usually be making these on Saturday nights. We love making sweet potato fries and a big salad to go alongside!

SUNDAY- Roasted Salmon with Broccoli

WHAT I WORE

We had some rain this week so I took advantage of wearing my favorite mac coat (currently on sale!) I also got the cutest hair clips from Shop Andi and I’ve been wearing this one daily! I love that it holds all of my hair, and is so cute too!

I love this striped tee! The color combo is the perfect neutral and it goes with everything! It’s also a great weight and feels like it will hold up nicely.

These pointy flats are a splurge but I’ve had this pair for the past 4 or 5 years and they’ve held up so well!

ON MY MIND

I feel like I might be the only person who doesn’t have a pair of these leggings! Am I missing out? Since I’ve been living in activewear these days, I was thinking about getting the gray color. I also like this style in the java color too!

I have been squeezing the last precious drops out of my tinted moisturizer and realized I haven’t shared how much I like it. It’s been a daily must for me. I love how light and hydrating it is, despite our dry climate, and I especially love that it’s a clean formula. I’ve heard so much about this clean makeup brand and I’m thinking about picking up a few items. Have any of you tried it?? Thoughts?

As we’re wrapping up our homeschool year, I’m thinking about fall already and what curriculums we’ll be using. I’ve loved The Good and the Beautiful Math so we’ll continue with that for Augustine, and I’m also thinking about working in some of the Ambleside Online recommendations.

I did a bunch of baby clothes organization this week and I was sad to find several pieces from Corinna that Beatrice wasn’t able to wear because of their opposite seasons. Luckily there are a few, like the dusty pink Bebe Organic outfit below, that will work with tights. Why do they grow so quickly??
