pink and girly in spring

cute summer outfit pink fit and flare dress and sun hat M Loves M @marmar
Girly dresses are my favorite, and they’re especially fun to wear during the spring and summer. All you need is a dress, some sandals, and maybe a big hat! I wore this outfit for an afternoon on the West Side of Los Angeles. I stopped by the Santa Monica farmer’s market for some fresh peonies and then made my way down to Venice. Peony season is the best time of year, although too short in my opinion. It’s hard not to put them in every corner of our home, although I’d probably go broke. I wonder if I could grow peonies in our backyard? That would be amazing!
This pretty pink dress has a subtle stripe detail and a super flattering fit-and-flare silhouette. I came back from Seattle to some typical June gloom but I’m looking forward to wearing this dress with a knit cardigan and some cute flats.

This week definitely feels like a short one because of my birthday on Monday, and traveling back from Seattle on Tuesday. My Wednesday is more like a Monday, which on one hand is good and on the other means it’s going to be crazy busy. Ready to drink a big cup of coffee and power through!
Happy Wednesday everyone! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Birthday Reflections {+ a video!}

birthday fun M Loves M @marmar
Yesterday was my birthday and it was so fun to celebrate it with Matthew in Seattle. I went to school in Seattle for two years and haven’t been back in too long. It was really fun to show Matthew around and really introduce him to the city. He had been once when he was little, and another time for a work trip, but hadn’t really gotten to do much. It was the most beautiful weekend, with mid-80 degree weather, and of course he fell in love. Seattle is pretty lovely, especially in the summertime, and each little area has it’s own personality and unique charm. One of the best parts of my weekend was that my best friend Lizzie was also in town for a work trip. We were staying pretty close together and were able to meet up for meals in between her conference. She’s usually always gone on my birthday so it was so fun to be where she was!
I’ve always been a birthday girl, making my day into a week long event. Are you like that too? My birthday has always been something fun to look forward to, an opportunity to eat my favorite foods, and see my favorite people. Oh, and eat a lot of sweets! As I’ve gotten older I still love celebrating, but there’s a weird feeling of existential awareness. I know I’m still young and have tons of time, but just that reminder that you’re not this young girl anymore can kind of get you. I’m sure I’ll look back when I’m in my 40s and 50s and think geez I was so young! But, still, it’s hard to not let the idea of a new year make you feel a tad bittersweet. One thing I really tried to remember yesterday was how grateful I am for my life. God has blessed me with so much and I am so grateful to be the person I am, living the life that I am, doing the things that I am. My situation could easily be so different. Instead of focusing on getting a year older I want to remember how lucky I am. I have this time right now and I need to appreciate all of it.
On my most recent video shoot at The Moon & Co, Teresa and I decided to make a short little birthday video. Any excuse for cupcakes! It’s pretty silly and funny, and only 22 seconds long, so check it out!
Thank you all for the sweet birthday messages yesterday on social media. It meant so much and totally brightened my day! Can’t wait to share photos from my Seattle trip with you all. It was so fun and I’m definitely not ready for it to end.

pink mixing

Pink on pink can definitely veer too young or girly, but other times it just works. I think it helps when you have a print to break things up. The print keeps the look from being too soft. At my event the other week, I knew I wanted to wear this skirt as soon as I saw it on the hanger. It’s so pretty yet it has a little edge to it with the asymmetrical front-slit. I was trying on tops and then this long sleeve sweater tee was next in my pile. At first I thought the pink on pink would be too much, but I loved it. I scrunched up the sleeves a little bit and finish the outfit off with these red sandal heels. Same color family, just a little darker. Sometimes you just gotta wear what you love!

Happy Friday everyone!! I’m excited because Matthew and I are heading to Seattle bright and early tomorrow morning. I went to school in Seattle for two years but I haven’t been back except for a 1 day project the other year. Oh, and I saw it for about 30 minutes from the cruise ship the other week! But that didn’t count! I’m excited to go back and really visit, especially since Matthew will be there too. It will be so fun to show him some of my favorite spots. The city has changed so much since I left though, so if any of you Seattleites have any recommendations, send them my way! I’m looking for good dinner spots, lunch spots, sushi spots, brunch spots, somewhere good for dessert, a coffee shop…basically any and all recommendations! Thank you in advance!
