Summer provides a great opportunity for weekend trips. They’re fun to plan but they’re also great in a spontaneous rush. I’ve always thought it would be fun to just say, “Pack up! We’re headed to the desert for a few days.” Whether it’s the beach, mountains, or a city trip, a girl has to be prepared. For me, these essentials above would definitely be coming with me in my weekender bag. I’d have to bring a fun t-shirt because weekends, and vacations especially, are a time to relax and not feel the pressure of dressing up. Similarly, I wouldn’t want to worry about packing a curling iron, flat iron, blow dryer etc; during the summer months I try to give my hair a break from heat styling. Surf spray is my favorite product for a fun, relaxed and low-maintenance ‘do, but if you don’t have any, a wide-brim hat will be the next best thing! A scarf for the cool mornings can double for a head wrap as well, or it would make a great shawl for a breezy evening outdoors.
I just started Ruth Reichl’s book Delicious! so that book is one of the first things I’d pack. Ruth Reichl was the Editor in Chief of Gourmet for many years and her book is a celebration of food through the eyes of Billie Breslin, a girl takes a job at the most prestigious food magazine in NYC. I’m only a few chapters in but so far I love it. It’s making me crave all sorts of yummy food and of course making me dream of a trip to New York City. Are there any fun books you’re reading this summer?
