The holidays are a busy time with work parties, end of year meetings, family get togethers, and one dinner event after the next. It’s a time where I feel like I’m constantly in holiday dresses. The one problem is that dresses can often be hard to re-wear. You really have to do something to make them look a little different. Even after working as a stylist for a few years I often struggle with putting holiday outfits together, especially when it comes to separates. When I heard that Macy’s had the MyStylist service where you can consult with a specialist for a head to toe look, I thought I’d check it out! It’s always fun to brainstorm styling ideas with other people and one of the things I miss most about being a stylist was my styling team. It’s so helpful to get someone else’s opinion and often you’ll end up creating some of your favorite outfits!

I went into Macy’s knowing I wanted to create a look including separates. I told Claire, the specialist, that I wanted to find pieces that would work well together, but also fit in with the rest of my wardrobe. The last thing I want is an item that I can only wear once in a very specific way. When I think of holiday outfits, I usually think of rich berry tones, lace, and sparkly accents. The outfit we came up with had none of these things, yet, it’s a gorgeous holiday outfit!

I loved the idea of wearing neutrals, a palette that’s often ignored during the winter months. We paired these cream-colored culottes by Vince Camuto with a classic blouse and added warmth with a luxe faux fur vest {it’s beyond soft!}, and a chunky blanket scarf. Then we finished the outfit with the most stunning cut-out sandal heels from Steve Madden! These are shoes that you can wear year-round, especially in Southern California! I was so happy with what we came up with and how Claire totally got my style. If you’re in need of some styling advice, and wanting to get styled head to toe, or if you need help looking for the perfect holiday gift, I’d highly recommend the MyStylist service! It’s super easy and non-intimidating. Plus, it’s free, so you have nothing too lose by trying it out!
