M Loves M January Reading List

One of the things I love about the month of January is that I’m able to catch up on my reading. The holiday months are so busy that I feel like I always have a half-finished book on my nightstand. I mentioned before that I started January with a little bit of a cold that totally put me down for the count. On the plus side though, I was able to read four books! And actually I finished them all over a week ago, so I could have even read a few more. But those will have to wait until February! I thought I’d share a little bit about my January reading list in case you’re looking for some alternative entertainment these winter months!

MY JANUARY READING LIST

Elena Ferrante My Brilliant Friend

My Dad recommended this book to me over the holidays and it’s one of my favorite books that I’ve read recently. People have been calling Elena Ferrante the best Italian novelist of our time and I can see why. She has a way of telling this story in such a captivating way. She tells the tale of two girls growing up together in 1950s Naples. All the characters are so interesting and unique and you can’t help but feel immersed in their lives. This is the first book of a series and I can’t wait to continue reading!

Maria Semple Where’d You Go, Bernadette?

This book was super popular a few years ago. You probably saw multiple Instagrams of it on a beach towel. This book is worth the hype though! I loved Bernadette and her kooky character. This book is a page turner because you’re just dying to know what happens and answer the title question. The author used to write for shows like Mad About You and Arrested Development so you’ll also laugh a ton!

Robert Galbraith Career of Evil

This is the third book in the Cormoran Strike series, so if you haven’t read the first two books, start there. The Cuckoo’s Calling and The Silkworm are incredibly good! It’s a mystery series that follows private detective Cormoran Strike as he solves different cases. I loved that with this book you also have chapters written by the murderer, but you don’t figure out who he is until the very end. Also, this book is written by J.K. Rowling, under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, but it’s very different from Harry Potter.

John Grisham Rogue Lawyer

My neighbor lent me this book and it’s the first John Grisham book I’ve read. I really enjoyed it! The book is about a criminal defense lawyer, Sebastian Rudd, who represents people that no one else will. There are multiple cases throughout the book, and all of them are very gripping. I think I’ll have to add other John Grisham books to my list in the future!

Do you find that you have more time to read during the winter months? I’d love to know what books you’re reading or want to add to your list. One of my next books is going to be The Girl on the Train. I love a good thriller mystery!
