October is one of my favorite months. The air feels fresh and crisp, the leaves change colors, and there’s a whole new wardrobe with bold plaids, chunky warm sweaters and cozy scarves! The print that I get most excited to wear this time of year is definitely plaid. Wouldn’t you say the same? It’s hard not to go plaid crazy around here, which made me wonder, is it possible to pair two plaids together? Like Barney Stinson would say, “Challenge Accepted!” Hint: it’s totally possible! Here’s how to pair plaid with plaid and not like you belong on the pages of an outdoor adventure catalog.

The key to pairing plaids together is to find complimentary colors. This gray and white plaid shirt dress is a great neutral and would look good with a variety of hues. I chose this burgundy plaid scarf because it adds a little bit of depth and brightness without being overwhelming. Since plaid on plaid can be a strong look I toned it down with simple, solid-colored cardigan. Finally, to tie in the burgundy scarf, I added a similarly colored bag.

The great thing about plaid is that you can work it into your wardrobe in a variety of ways. Whether you’re wearing a plaid button up with a pair of jeans, a quilted plaid vest over a dress, or a plaid mini skirt with a turtleneck sweater, you’ll look totally ready for the fall season!
