Living in Southern California

The Thing I Hate Most about Living in Southern California- M Loves M @marmarMany people think the sunshine, palm trees, and beach life of Southern California is like paradise. And it is wonderful, don’t get me wrong. I grew up in Los Angeles, and while I went away for college, I came back. What drew me back to the City of Angels wasn’t just the sunshine, though, but my family and friends, as well as the familiarity. I know how to drive across town from the Valley to Beverly Hills without getting on the freeway, I know there’s that one diner on Ventura Blvd that is always open late, and I have a hair girl, a nail girl, a tailor, a dentist, a doctor, the works. But there is the one thing I hate most about living in Southern California that darkens the rose colored, palm tree viewing, glasses.

Fall. Fall! It’s one season but more like 4 months out of the year that I just can’t stand. I know if that’s the only thing I dislike, I have it pretty good. Sure there are other things I dislike, for example the traffic, some of the “Hollywood” people, the pollution, did I mention the traffic? Those things I can kind of deal with, but fall I cannot stand. There is a reason why we went to Arrowhead the other week. We were escaping one of our 90 degree October weekends.

When September rolls around I crave the cool, crisp weather of the East Coast. The leaves that change from green to yellow or orange to brown. The days where you bundle up in sweaters, scarves and beanies, and eat hearty soups and strews while sitting by the crackling fireplace. I want to go pick out a pumpkin when it is actually cold out, and not when I see pumpkins rotting in the harsh sun. I know it’s a silly thing to complain about, but it’s how I feel. While some people hate their winters, I think I would gladly embrace snow, and all the seasons, for a taste of true fall.

Maybe that means Matthew and I need to plan a trip next year to really experience fall somewhere else. I think that would be so fun! I want to pack away my summer clothes at the end of August and really not need to touch them before the new year! Can you imagine?!

I think all of this is on my mind since I looked at the forecast for this week and saw that it will be in the high 80s on Thanksgiving. It’s not the kind of Thanksgiving I’d like, but I’m going to be thankful nonetheless. If I can’t live in a place with fall maybe I’ll just trick myself with some AC!

a perfect pair of fall booties by koolaburra - M Loves M @marmar the one thing I hate about most living in Southern California a cute and casual fall look for southern california love this off the shoulder sweater this skirt is perfect for those warmer fall days a casual look for southern California fall weather

In the meantime, I’ll be wearing all the ankle booties and boots, even if that means I have to wear them with skirts or dresses! I got this suede pair of booties from Koolaburra and I love the wrap detail around the ankle. Plus how fun is the tassel?! The height is also really cute to wear with jeans tucked in. The boots are on sale right now for under $100 if you’re interested. They also come in black, although I’m much more of a brown person. Do you have a color preference between the two usually? I have black purses that just sit around barely worn, but the brown ones get all the use!

Did you know that Koolaburra is the sister brand to UGG? I had no idea! If you follow along on InstaStories ya’ll know I wear my UGG boots nonstop and I think this is the year I might need a new pair. I am OBSESSED with this style from Koolaburra though and it’s not just because of the price. I mean the bows are just too perfect! These boots + leggings + a chunky, oversized sweater is my ideal loungy outfit! I need!! And if you want a cool boho fringe style, this one might be for you!

I hope you all are having a great week and getting excited for Thanksgiving! I hope the weather will be ideally fall wherever you are! I’ll just be over here in the AC pretending!
