I love pairing a crisp button-down shirt with a flowy skirt! | M Loves M @marmarIf you look through my closet you’ll see that half of one of my racks is crammed full of button-down shirts. Without even realizing it, I’ve accumulated quite the collection. Button-down shirts are such a versatile top option and they’re so classic. I seriously have ones from years ago that still look great because I’ve done my best to take care of them and clean them properly. There’s no denying that button-down shirts stand the test of time! I usually pair button-down shirts with jeans, or nicer pants when I was working in an office. Lately, though I’ve been challenging myself to wear them in other ways. Today I thought I’d share how to pair a button-down with a skirt, but still achieve that casual and laidback style!

How to Pair a Button-Down Shirt with a Skirt

1. Tie it Up!

One of my favorite things about a button-down shirt is its versatility. By tying a knot with the two ends, you can achieve a different look. A tied shirt is more casual, but it still looks put together. So many shirts come with a tied look now because it’s so popular, but I don’t mind the minimal effort to do it myself.

2. Keep the Shoes Casual

Since I wanted this look to be more casual, I threw on my favorite leather loafers. I love this pair and while they’re a bit of a splurge, they’re so worth it in my opinion. I did notice this affordable option though, that looks very similar!

3. Throw on a Crossbody Bag

By keeping the bag casual too, the outfit looks more weekend and less office. Plus who doesn’t love a hands-free bag option?

I love how pulled together this outfit looks and I think the button-down really helps. Lately I’ve been trying to style my hair a little differently, so I like twisting back the pieces on the sides. Have you seen my Hair Board on Pinterest? I’m always adding cute ideas there! I also think it’s almost time to do the Half Up Bun Hairstyle. This is one of my go-tos in spring and summer.
