During the summer I live in my maxi dresses! They’re so incredibly comfortable and it’s such an easy outfit, especially during those hot summer days. Just because summer is ending, though, doesn’t mean you need to pull all your maxi dresses back into storage. Today I’m sharing some styling tips for wearing your maxi dresses for fall! This black maxi is one of my faves because of how soft the material is, and also the slits on the side. Gives a little drama! Also, I’m sharing a tip on styling those cropped sweaters that seem to be everywhere now!

Transitioning Your Maxi Dresses for Fall

If you’re looking for the best way to transition your maxi dresses for fall, I would totally suggest adding a sweater! Whether it’s a pullover, like this striped one, or a cardigan, a sweater will add a cozy fall vibe to your look. Typically I’m not a big fan of those cropped sweaters because even with my high waisted jeans they feel too short or something. I bought this striped turtleneck sweater not realizing it was shorter but then absolutely loved how it looked with this maxi dress. To be honest, a regular hemmed sweater wouldn’t have the same effect. If this sweater was any longer, it would just be too much fabric and it wouldn’t be as flattering. So now when I see those cropped sweaters, I’ll have a styling idea in mind: layer them over dresses (maxi or regular!). Also, if you have a little bump, this outfit will highlight it in a subtle way due to the hem of the sweater!

Of course, if you’re wearing your maxi dresses for fall, you better be wearing some ankle booties too! I’m excited to do a big post next week with some of my fall shoe faves, but this black pair is one that I would say is definitely worth the price tag. I splurged on them after looking at them for several years and only wish I had bought them sooner. This pair is a similar lower-priced option though that is just as cute!
