Hello! I hope you’re all doing well during the midst of this hectic time we’re living in. Before diving into this post, I wanted to note that I had it planned and ready to go before the recent coronavirus escalations. I’m remaining optimistic that we’ll all be going back to normal life soon and hope my blog can serve as a positive and welcomed distraction during this time. Recently, I shared a mom’s night out outfit that I loved! It was the perfect mix of cute and practical. You can see the outfit here! Matthew and I are way overdue for a date night and with our anniversary coming up, I wanted to find a good going out outfit that felt a bit flirtier. Enter: puff sleeves. Keep reading to see why I think puff sleeves are the new “going out top”.
Why Puff Sleeves Are The New “Going Out Top”

I grew up in the age of the “going out top”. If you were a teen or young adult during the early aughts, then you know exactly what tops I’m talking about! Low cut, silky, strappy, and usually cheaply made. While I’m not sad to see that trend go, I do have to admit, for the past few years I’ve been stumped when it comes time to find a great top to wear out at night. I wanted something pretty and feminine but appropriate. In comes the puff sleeves trend.
When puff sleeves came onto the scene, a lot of them were super sweet looking. Which I of course loved! They are just so flattering and fun. But I’ve noticed recently that there are some options out there that feel a bit edgier. For example, the top I’m wearing feels so going out appropriate because it’s black instead of a pretty pink or pastel. This bold polkadot top would be another good option for a night out on the town! A body suit with puff sleeves would also be perfect for going out as you’ll get a nice fitted feel.
I chose to pair a top with puff sleeves with jeans, but you could totally wear a dress once the weather warms up in a few weeks. I am obsessed with this fun and flirty puff sleeve dress. I mean who doesn’t want to wear red on a hot date?? I also found a puff sleeve jumpsuit which is such a cool take on the trend! All of the styles with puff sleeves I rounded up below are under $100 {some are even under $20!}, so this a super affordable trend to scoop up this spring!
