How We’re Planning for Back to School

I can’t believe summer is already starting to wind down and we are thinking about school! Matthew and I are preparing to homeschool Augustine due to the current circumstances as I’m sure many of you are in the same boat. This is totally new to me and I want to make learning at home a fun environment for the family. Just in case things may turn around and school will be in person, I found some great backpack sets for the kids! This backpack set comes with all your school day essentials; a cute lunch box, pencil pouch, and water bottle. Keeping a backpack filled with all your materials for the day is a great idea and might be something your little one looks forward to opening each day. I got this one for Augustine, although it’s slightly a little big for him. I thought it would be great to keep some of his dedicated school books in it, even at home. He feels like such a big kid with his backpack. It’s so cute!! Thinking this camo backpack might be a great one for him too so maybe he’ll have to swap with Matthew!

As for teaching at home, I wanted to stock up on all the typical classroom necessities like pencils, these ones are thicker for kids learning to write, crayons, erasers, scissors, lined paper, glue sticks and more! Walmart had practically everything I needed which made it so easy. I ordered online and the shipping was so fast, but depending on where you live you’ll probably see how great the selection is in store too. I definitely suggest some learning assisting tools like flashcards, letter tracing paper, critical thinking workbooks, and matching puzzle sets. Workbooks are also another great way to help keep kids busy and track their progress. Augustine loves to work in this Big Preschool workbook. It’s a great combination of being fun and also educational. This trace, color and cut workbook is perfect for kids learning how to use scissors and this site words book is super helpful with enforcing the basics. They can help really implement what you are teaching and a little extra practice is always great! I also want our at home classroom to have some fun hands on elements that Augustine would love! This large World map, fun learning tablet, classroom calendar, and responsibility chart are so cute and engaging ways to learn.

One thing I’m really going to rely on during our homeschooling is having a routine because I know that kids really rely on that. We’ll be getting started in the mornings after breakfast when I feel like Augustine has the best focus and attention. We’ll be saving our afternoons for outings related to what we’re learning {i.e. visiting local farms, aquariums, gardens, basically getting out in nature however we can}. I’m really excited for the opportunity to learn and grow with Augustine and I think it will be such a great fit for our family. If any of you are considering homeschooling, this book was very helpful and encouraging!
