Here's what to wear in your 30s! - M Loves M @marmarIt’s officially shorts season and I’ve been on the hunt to find flattering and stylish summer shorts that are a little more appropriate to wear now that I am in my thirties, haha! Those denim cut-offs were cute a couple of years ago, but I think it’s time to switch them out for shorts with a little bit of a longer inseam and/or a higher rise. Bonus points for shorts that are stylish enough to be worn with a small wedge or flats. Keep reading for more tips on wearing summer shorts in your 30s.

When it comes to finding stylish, yet age-appropriate, shorts for summer, I look for pairs that are sophisticated, high rise, have longer inseams, aren’t too tight, and don’t have too many rips. Sounds like a big ask, right? I narrowed it down into three different types of shorts – tailored, denim, and flowy – to talk about what I look for in each of these classic styles! And don’t worry, I found some really great options that are available online!

Type 1: Tailored Fit

I think shorts with a bit more structure to them are always a flattering option, no matter your age. Looking for a pair of shorts that have more of a nautical style is super cute for summer and are easy to style, plus I love the cute buttons running on the sides. Shorts that are pleated are another great pick because they look polished and come in fun prints like this white and tan gingham pair, or good basic colors like khaki. These white eyelet tailored shorts have a nice fit, not too tight but not too loose and look great with a tee tucked in.

Type 2: Denim

There are a few things I like to keep in mind when looking for denim shorts. First of all, I like to look for something a little longer in length such as a 3 or 4 inch inseam. Even a mid length short can be cute and is totally in style this summer! I also like to keep the distressed look to a minimum, shorts with a few smaller rips and short raw hemline are fun but not too crazy. Another tip to keep in mind is that denim shorts can easily be rolled up along the hem. So don’t worry if a pair of shorts is a little longer in length or it’s looser around your legs. Try them cuffed at the bottom!

Type 3: Flowy fit

This may be the comfiest option and right now there are so many cute flowy styles of shorts! The classic paper bag shorts are fun, and I love when they cinch in or have a cute belt around the waist. I also love finding a bold pattern like these colorful stripes or this tropical print and tucking in a tank top – such an easy breezy outfit that looks really put together! Flowy style shorts are ideal for casual days and I totally appreciate that they’re comfortable to play and run around with the kids in. Basically they’re the perfect summer shorts!
