As I mentioned last week, I am committed to learning how to be an ally in the fight against racism. For me, the first step has been taking the time and care to educate myself. One way I’ve been doing that is by having conversations about this important topic which is how I met Kate, the Associate Director at a nonprofit that supports social justice and diversity in the educational sector. Today, she has offered to share her thoughts on how to be an ally to people of color. Welcome Kate!

A Little Bit of Summertime Home Inspiration
With summer just around the corner, it’s the perfect time for some summertime home inspiration! I can’t wait to get the backyard prepped for summer! I hope we will be able to have people over in the near future, but for now I am enjoying the yard with the family. I am stocking up on a few outdoor entertainment essentials we can enjoy! I am obsessed with this seagrass wrapped pitcher and the matching wrapped glasses, they are seriously are perfect for summer! These navy and white striped towels would be so cute, especially next to an ice bucket when serving drinks. I’m all about having family dinners in the yard as well, this set of outdoor plates, serving bowl, and fork set are adorable and have a fun beachy feel. How cute is this white metal basket too? This would be great to put out and fill with fruit or rolls. Don’t forget a nice picnic blanket and an outdoor lantern for the cooler evenings as well! I’m also on the lookout for any new cookbooks. I’ve had my eye on this Open Kitchen book, it looks like it is full of great summer recipes! How are all of you prepping for summer? I’d love to hear about some of your favorite outdoor essentials!

Today I’m one year older, and I have to say it’s a very strange time to be celebrating. If you had asked me in March if I was going to have a Quarantine Birthday I wouldn’t have believed you! Luckily things in California are starting to open back up a bit, but it still doesn’t feel quite the same yet. While I won’t be getting together with family and friends, I will be having a laid back day at home with Matthew and the kiddos. Matthew is working a half day and then I think we’re going to go to the beach for a bit and maybe bring a little picnic dinner or something. Otherwise, we might be ordering in sushi! Either way, I’m excited to do something small and special with them. For as crazy as 2020 has been so far {side note: has anyone seen the meme about how each month is like a Level of Jumanji??}, there is a lot that I am so happy about. I feel like I’ve learned a lot this past year and it’s been nice to reflect on some of these changes. Sharing a little bit about that below!
