Augustine’s Nighttime Routine at 1 Year

augustine's nighttime routine at 1 year old- M Loves M @marmar

Some of you might know that Augustine hasn’t been the best sleeper. There was a period for several months where we were in his room off and on for 3-4 hours before he would finally fall asleep for a solid chunk of time. During one of those crazed nights, where I felt at wit’s end, I did some Google searching {good ol’ Google always coming through!}. One of the things that mama after mama encouraged was a consistent bedtime routine. At the time we didn’t really have a routine so it was like a big lightbulb went off in my head, “ooooh. That makes sense.” We gave it a try and that is what I credit Augustine’s new and improved sleep to. He’s still up once in the middle of the night, but the going down process is a lot easier. Today I’m breaking down Augustine’s bedtime routine, as it’s changed for us now at the 1 year mark.

A Letter to Augustine on His First Birthday

A Letter to Augustine on His First Birthday - M Loves M @marmar

Before I knew it, Augustine turned one. In a lot of ways, it’s been the longest year of my life, but it’s gone by way too quickly. I never knew how true the saying was, that “The days are long, but the years are short,” until we reached one year. In all honesty, the first year of motherhood has been a hard one, but it’s been more rewarding than I could imagine. In fact, as hard as it was, I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat. Every day I’m just amazed at this baby who is becoming his own little person. Last year I wrote a letter to my baby on his/her due date, so I thought this year I’d share a letter to Augustine on his first birthday!

Augustine and His Sleep: The Best Sleep Method for Us

March 6, 2017

Augustine's Sleep Situation

If you’ve been reading Augustine’s updates {like his 4-month one}, you know our little guy isn’t the best sleeper. He’s had a hard time when it comes to sleep since the very beginning. Matthew likes to joke that he’s good at staying awake. Funny but true! Augustine fought sleep and wouldn’t stay asleep for long periods of time. Sometimes he’d sleep for 35 minutes and then be up and want to stay up for another hour and a half, at 3 am! I’d walk around the dark quiet house with him telling him how everyone was asleep, even Ginger, and he needed to go to sleep too. I’d say, “Mommy likes to sleep. Daddy likes to sleep. Even Gingie likes to sleep!” Those nights feel so far away now, which I am incredibly happy about! Today I’m sharing the sleep method that drastically improved Augustine’s sleep.
