summer bike ride - M Loves M @marmar

Happy Sunday y’all! Getting this post up a little later than usual. We’ve been celebrating Matthew’s birthday all week which has been so fun. I feel like I love Matthew’s birthday week as much as my own. It’s just the best to celebrate our favorite guy. To make things extra special, I made his favorite recipes all week, and two birthday desserts: his forever pick of a mud pie, and also this strawberry pretzel cake (but with Biscoff instead of gingersnap cookies although Matthew would love that too I’m sure!)

Here’s a recap of our week:

WHAT WE ATE

I plan to share the meals I made the previous week, with links if possible, as some inspiration for your own menu planning.

MONDAY- Honey Garlic Shrimp and Corn and Bacon Avocado Salad – one of our favorite summer salads!

TUESDAY- Pulled Pork with Coleslaw

WEDNESDAY- BBQ Chicken Salad with Avocado Ranch– so yummy and easy to put together

THURSDAY- Sourdough Pizza with leftover pulled pork, red onions and bbq sauce (and a margarita pizza for the kids!)

FRIDAY- Spicy Orange Sesame Chicken– tastes better than takeout in our opinion!

SATURDAY- Grilled Skirt Steak and Orzo with the best basil vinaigrette ever – seriously make that vinaigrette and put it on everything!

SUNDAY- leftovers

fried eggs with oregano- M Loves M @marmar

If you haven’t made fried eggs with oregano yet, you’re missing out! This is my go-to breakfast that I have most days of the week.

smitten kitchen big pie crumb bars - M Loves M @marmar

New favorite summer dessert: the big pie crumb bars from the Smitten Kitchen’s Keepers cookbook. SO good! I used a combination of plums, peaches, raspberries, and blueberries. I wish the recipe was available online but trust me, this cookbook is worth buying!

scrambled eggs with herbs - M Loves M @marmar

Scrambled eggs with fresh herbs will always make me think of family holidays because it’s a simple breakfast but feels special and fancy. I love to make this for Christmas morning to go along with our coffee cake, but it’s just as delicious as any other time of year!

strawberry pretzel cake from half baked harvest

The strawberry pretzel cake I mentioned above. I have a feeling it will be another new summer staple. Very kid-friendly too!

WHAT I WORE

casual summer outfit - M Loves M @marmar

This white button-up shirt has been a staple for me for the past several years. I found it on sale here! It’s such an easy pick for any denim outfit, but I also love it with linen shorts.

black tank with linen pants - M Loves M @marmar

Staying cool in this hatch tank and these linen pants. This is a weekly favorite for me. I really love the beige and black color combo outfits right now, although I know it’s not very summery.

SALES TO NOTE

The Anniversary Sale is happening! It’s kind of crazy to think back on how much time and effort I put into those sale posts every year. It was a lot of work, and while I enjoyed it, I’m happy not to be spending that much time on it this year. I thought I’d just highlight a few favorites:

Gap– 50% off!

Wayfair – Outdoor Clearance

Banana Republic– Big Summer Sale- I am loving BR these days. Everything is so good and this sale is one to take advantage of!

ON MY MIND

We’ve been taking it easy today because Augustine stepped on a wasp the other day and his foot has been so swollen. Thankfully it’s looking a lot better but it’s hard for the boy to get around. It sounds like it can be swollen for a week but we’re praying it doesn’t take too long.

I know I mentioned this book to you a few months ago, The Mission of Motherhood. I really enjoyed it so I’m looking forward to reading it again with my friends for our Book Club. It’s a book that would be so encouraging to go through with other mamas. By the way, have you seen my Amazon Storefront? I have a section for favorite books on there, as well as homeschool resources, favorite books for kids, etc.

nap time with eye masks

I hope you all have a wonderful week and stay cool! It will be another hot week for us so I’m seeing some splash pad and pool days in our future. Oh and naps too!

M Loves M loves our baby - @marmar

Happy Sunday friends! We had a great week that I can’t wait to share with you all. Last night we had our good friend’s over for dinner and it was so fun seeing the kids running around, playing in the inflatable pool, and making those summertime memories.

Here’s a recap of our week:

WHAT WE ATE

I plan to share the meals I made the previous week, with links if possible, as some inspiration for your own menu planning.

MONDAY- Stir Fry with cauliflower rice- Whole 30 approved too!

TUESDAY- Fajita Steak Platter- so easy and delicious! Matthew even fried up some corn tortilla to make chips…such a treat!

WEDNESDAY- Zucchini Pie with a BLT Salad – both from this cookbook No Crumbs Left – we loved both so much, especially the creamy horseradish dressing on the BLT salad

THURSDAY- Cocoa Salmon- from this cookbook No Crumbs Left

FRIDAY- BBQ Chicken Cobb Salad with Avocado Ranch Dressing

SATURDAY- Turkey Burgers {made like this} with sweet potato fries and a summer salad with strawberries, red onion, pecans and feta

SUNDAY- Spring Puttanesca Pasta {the start of Matthew’s favorite meal dinner week!}

peanut butter rice crispy bars from pastry love cookbook- M Loves M @marmar

These browned butter rice crispy bars with peanut butter ganache are one of the best treats I’ve made lately! They are highly addictive and oh so good! The recipe is in the cookbook, Pastry Love, which is one of my favorite dessert cookbooks.

iced latte - M Loves M @Marmar

I have been making the most delicious (if I do say so myself!) iced lattes and I look forward to them every afternoon. I’ve been practicing making my own sweet cream foam on top which is about 2T heavy cream, 2T milk, and 1 tsp vanilla bean powder/extract/simple syrup.

zucchini pie - M Loves M @marmar summer dinner - burger on a brioche bun with sweet potato fries - M Loves M @marmar ham, cheddar and chive scramble - M Loves M @marmar

Augustine loved this ham, cheddar, and chive scramble the other day! He’s such a good little eater, Corinna too. But he’s definitely very into food and loves to help plan out our meals.

I also made this Torn Plum Browned Butter Cake which was a big hit. It had 5 egg whites, regular flour, almond flour, confectioners sugar, and honey, so you can imagine the texture was unique- not too dense or heavy but light and fluffy with a nutty sweet flavor.

WHAT I WORE

Always with a baby on my hip these days, which makes me so happy! I got this crochet bucket hat from GIGIPIP (use MARA15 for a discount) and I surprisingly love it. It seems like it would be easy to pack on a trip too!

I’m obsessed with Rachel Pally’s gorgeous dresses and her Adelaide silhouette is one of my favorites. I have it in the gauze but the linen is so lovely too!

ON MY MIND

This week I’ve been getting into the routine of working out again which I have loved so much! I think it’s thanks to the fact that we’ve gotten Beatrice into a better sleep routine and more consistent nap schedule. When she goes down for her second nap, I’ve been able to go on our elliptical while the big kids have their own quiet time. It’s been such a nice way to get a little extra energy for the afternoon. Also, after I put the kids down for bedtime, I’ve been going out for walks in the neighborhood. Matthew has been so sweet to encourage me to go and I’ve really looked forward to it. It’s light here until after 10 pm so going for an evening walk allows me to enjoy the last bit of daylight and the cooler evening temperatures.

Corinna and I have been reading the original Winnie-the-Pooh book and it is so adorable! I love that A.A. Milne wrote these stories for his son Christopher Robin.

This week we went over table manners in our homeschool and it was fun practicing how to set the table properly. There was a cute little poem in this book that has helped guide these character-building habits.

This coming week is Matthew’s birthday week so I’m planning one of his favorite dinners each night, which I think we’re all so excited about. I’ll share all the details with you next weekend. Have a great one!

fourth of july mommy and me style - M Loves M @marmar

This has been such a lovely, and different, weekend for me. Matthew took the two big kids camping so I am home with just baby Beatrice (and Ginger the dog). I loved being able to give her so much personalized attention. It reminded me a lot of when I just had Augustine. I took advantage of Beatrice’s naptimes to get a lot done around the house. I felt like I was a mama on a mission! And then with her earlier bedtime, I had a nice evening where I could shower, bake a dessert, and get this blog post done before it got too dark out. It’s the little things, I’m telling ya! We definitely missed everyone though so it will be nice when they get back tomorrow afternoon.

Here’s a recap of our week:

WHAT WE ATE

I plan to share the meals I made the previous week, with links if possible, as some inspiration for your own menu planning.

MONDAY- Honey Garlic Shrimp, Corn, Avocado, and Bacon Salad– the first time we made this we knew it was a keeper! It’s seriously so good and absolutely perfect for the warm summer months.

TUESDAY- Grilled Ribs with Coleslaw Salad (from Alison Roman’s newsletter) for the 4th, plus the most delicious berry cheesecake bars

WEDNESDAY- Pork Chops with Toasted Garlic and Spicy Capers – from this cookbook that my Dad recommended to me. This recipe was so good, Matthew asked me to write it down.

THURSDAY- Beef Enchiladas from Magnolia Table – found a YouTube video of it being made here

FRIDAY- Grilled Rib Eye with Burst Tomato and Chimichurri- from this cookbook

SATURDAY- Sourdough and Butter with a side salad (don’t judge, I took advantage of not having to cook for anyone!)

SUNDAY- Sweet and Sticky Roast Chicken – also from this cookbook

the best summer salad - M Loves M @marmar berry cheesecake bars for the fourth of july - M Loves M @marmar sourdough bread - M Loves M @marmar sourdough with butter and rose

I made the Browned Butter Peanut Rice Crispy Treats with Peanut Butter Ganache from this dessert cookbook which I highly recommend. I surprisingly love a rice crispy treat, especially if chocolate, peanut butter, and browned butter are involved! I’m going to try this version next.

WHAT I WORE

We were very patriotic this week with our red, white, and blue! Considering that red is one of my favorite colors, I don’t have too much of it in my closet right now so I wore a white dress with a blue bandana in my hair and some red lipstick. Corinna and baby Beatrice had headbands on too! By the way, want a good red lipstick? This Lancome shade is a classic!

I’m loving the color combo of black and nude so I wore some linen pants with this great tank. The linen pants I’m wearing are sold out but this pair is a great option. Or this pair!

ON MY MIND

It feels like we’re in summer full-swing these days with 4th of July festivities and berry picking this past week. I haven’t been to the river or the pool yet so maybe this will be my week, although it seems like a little much with a small baby. That might be a good weekend activity to look forward to when I have Matthew’s help. I’m thankful it hasn’t been too hot, but I think the temperatures will be hovering close to 100 this week. Baby Beatrice, my fall baby, has been experiencing hot weather for the first time in her life!

Matthew’s birthday is coming up and we’re so excited to celebrate him! I thought it would be fun to make one of his favorite meals each night of the week so I’m currently in planning mode!

I harvested my garlic this week which is always so exciting! I planted the first week in November so early July is the typical harvest date. I’m hoping I can braid them since I got the soft-necked variety.
