Why I’m Ok with my Style Being Basic

The other day I was talking to someone about the outfits I’m drawn to and said something like, “feminine, classic, but it’s kind of basic.” And as soon as I heard the word basic, I cringed a little. That word has gotten such a bad connotation lately. Is basic that terrible, though? My best friend and I watched that How to Tell If You’re a Basic B video and were laughing because we were like, “Yes that’s so us! But is that a bad thing?!” Here’s why I’m ok with my style being basic, and why you should be fine with it too:

Basic is easy. It makes you feel comfortable and more like yourself. There’s nothing worse than being in an outfit that makes you feel self-conscious or awkward, don’t you agree? I remember wearing this one outfit a few years ago and I got tons of compliments on it but the whole time I felt a little out of place. I felt like I was in a costume that didn’t really feel like me. As soon as I got home I changed and never put the outfit back on again.

A basic outfit can be just a tee and jeans, and that’s totally fine! We should never feel like we have to apologize for being ourselves, or wearing something we like and feel happy in. If you like wearing super layered, editorial, high-fashion, Carrie Bradshaw-esque outfits, you go girl! Be proud of it! But if you just want to wear sweatpants and a tee that’s totally fine too! Personally, I’m drawn to the easier outfits, especially these days with a little baby. A top and jeans just work way better for my lifestyle. As a renowned dress-girl, I’ve had to get used to outfits that are a little more functional for my day-to-day. Yes, they’re basic but they sure make me feel good. And that’s the most important thing!

Today’s basic/simple outfit is a version of my favorite go-to outfit: jeans and a blouse. The blouse has a feminine hem detail, a floral print, and pretty tie details on the shoulder so it looks a little fancier than it is. Don’t be confused: it’s still pretty basic. But basic with a twist. I’ve been loving these pink suede mules because of how easy they are to dress up an outfit, and yet they’re super casual and comfortable.  Another simple piece but it has a little personality!

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I’m going to be seeing one of my closest family friends from growing up tomorrow and it’s her first time meeting Augustine. She lives in NYC so she’s been an auntie from afar. Also, I’m putting together the last little details for my best friend’s bachelorette weekend which is a week from today! Ah! Still a little nervous, but really looking forward to celebrating with her. It’s going to be so fun.

Have a great one everyone! Also, mamas make sure to enter my big beauty giveaway if you haven’t already!
