Six Books to "Read" Before Watching the Movie - M Loves M @marmar

If you’re like me and love going to the movies in the summer to beat the heat then you have probably been keeping a running list on what movies you are trying to make it to before the Summer is done. However, being a mama and having a little guy on a tight napping schedule, it can be hard to get in all those summer movies you want to see. Instead what I have been doing is keeping a list of all the books being made into movies this year and trying to get to the books before the movie comes out on DVD, then I get to experience both from the comfort of my home without feeling like I’m missing out on anything!

Even though I love reading physical copies of books (there is really nothing better than curling up on the couch and reading to your hearts content) I have found that I love listening to books as well and Audible makes it easy and affordable  do whether I’m cooking in the kitchen with Augustine or driving around town. Here I’ve listed my top favorite Audible books that I have been listening too or are on my list to read before the movie comes out. Let me know what you think!

Six Books to “Read” Before Watching the Movie

Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children:

Now I know this book has been around for awhile now but it only just hit the theatres this past spring and it had been on my list since the book came out. This book is especially fun to listen too if you have some kids in the car, it’s good ole fashioned YA (a genre I personally never grew out of) with some spooky twists that make you want to keep listening. I highly recommend giving this a read since it’s fast and easy fun, however the movie does stray from the plot in the end a bit so beware when seeing the film that things turn out a bit differently.

The Princess Bride:

Now I know this is a movie classic, but I recently found out that this one was a book as well! I have only fond memories of the movie but have recently fallen in love all over again by reading the book! Listening to this one has been such a fun experience going back in time and discovering new elements of one of the most classic love/adventure tales. If you haven’t read it yet make sure you put this on the top of your list, especially since it means you get to watch the movie all over again afterwards.

Wonder:

Wonder is a darling YA/Children’s book that explores what it means to be different and stand out and how we overcome those differences through friendship and confidence. I truly adored this book and I’m so excited that it is getting made into a movie coming out this fall. It’s such an endearing story and I hope it will be a movie I can show Augustine someday as an example of how to be kind and embrace our differences. If you haven’t had a chance to give this one a read you should try it out!

The Dark Tower:

This is a classic Stephen King thriller/fantasy series which was recently turned into a summer blockbuster. I’m not normally a Stephen King fan but I think this one is especially intriguing. I have yet to see the film but I hear it’s quite a bit different from the book so I’m looking forward to finishing this book and comparing it to the DVD (do people even say DVD anymore? Maybe I’ll stream it, who knows) when it comes out!

The Fault in Our Stars:

Believe it or not I adored this book but I have yet to see the movie. I know, I know, I’m a little behind the times but this book was so precious to me that I have a hard time believing the movie will be as good as I imagined it. Listening to this book on Audible was so much fun! It’s one of those books I can read over and over and never stop falling love with Hazel and Augustus, they are such beautiful characters and eventually I know I’ll see the movie but right now I’ve enjoyed rereading it. (P.S. Have you heard John Green’s new book Turtles All the Way Down will hit the shelves this October? I’m so excited!)

Murder on the Orient Express:

Last but not least, Agatha Christie hits the big screen this fall! I haven’t read a lot of Agatha Christie in the past, but I have an obsessive love for mystery and Agatha is one of the most prolific mystery writers in history (English major nerd alert). This is a classic mystery with so many characters to choose as the murderer it definitely keeps you guessing.  I’m super excited for this movie to hit theaters, especially since the cast list is unreal! Who knows I might make it to this one on a date night with Matthew now that Augustine is 1 year old! Crazy!

Let me know what you think of this list! I would love to hear about what you guys are reading or watching this summer! I have a running list going so I’m always happy to get your opinions on what should be up next!
