Fall is all about the layers! This is what we waited all summer for right? I think layers are part of why fall fashion is so fun and more of a challenge. In the summer all you need is a sun dress. One and done. But dressing can feel so much more creative during the fall. Not to mention, more practical. Let’s face it, we have to layer to stay warm! One of my favorite styles to layer right now is maxi cardigans. I wore this grey one recently and plan on rotating it with the camel cardigan I’m wearing in these photos all season long!

I’ve seen a lot of great maxi cardigans this season {the evidence is below!} but I was most strongly drawn to the one I’m wearing from Abercrombie & Fitch because of the texture. I love that it’s subtle, but is noticeable enough to add add texture to your outfit. I actually brought this one with me to Colorado too and it’s been perfect for exploring! I feel like mixing different textures is important while layering. You don’t want your look to be too one note. Especially if you’re wearing multiple knits. Abercrombie has seriously had the best sweaters lately! Yesterday, I shared this split back sweater from A&F that I’m loving right now too.
Speaking of layering, maxi cardigans are the ideal fall layering piece. If you live somewhere not so cold like I do, then it can be a pretty good replacement for coats and jackets most days. But if you do live somewhere chilly, it’s a really nice extra warm layer under warm coats. Especially on days you need to head to the office and want a little warmth but aren’t going to wear your coat around all day! Speaking of coats, I have my eye on this teddy coat from J.Crew right now! How do you feel about the teddy coat trend? I love it! Such a cozy look!
I personally prefer to wear straighter legged jeans with long cardigans to keep the look more streamlined. The jeans I’m wearing could not be more comfortable, so that’s a bonus. Of course I love neutral maxi cardigans, but I also found some more bold options. This striped version would be so cute with jeans and a white tee. This chenille cardigan comes in grey or marigold so there is an option for neutral or colorful! I like that the slight sheen and almost velvet texture feels evening appropriate. It would be so cute over a dress on date night!
