casual mom style - M Loves M @marmar

Happy Sunday and happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas out there! I think Matthew is talking about going out for lunch which will be fun. I don’t think I’ve mentioned that my mother-in-law has been living with us, so that makes the day that much more special to be together. Missing my mom in Los Angeles though!! Gah it’s hard to spend holidays apart.

Here’s a little recap of our week:

WHAT WE ATE

my plan is to share the meals I made the previous week, with links if possible, as some inspiration for your own menu planning.

MONDAY- Balsamic Grilled Skirt Steak with Charred Tomatoes– Matthew was obsessed! He said we need to make this once a week, which you know by now is a top compliment!

TUESDAY- Easy Skillet Cheesy Green Chile Enchilada Bake– I used 1 poblano instead of 2 (pre-roasting it), and it was yummy! Such an easy, crowd-pleaser.

WEDNESDAY- Chicken Tzatziki Bowls – This was the surprise favorite of the week! I love Greek food and while it’s not Matthew’s favorite, he really liked this one! Also, the kids loved the chicken that was grilled in this yummy yogurt and turmeric marinade.

THURSDAY- Crispy Oven Pork Sliders with Coleslaw Salad and homemade Hawaiian sweet rolls– You might remember we’ve made this recipe a few times. It’s one of Augustine’s favorites and always requested.

FRIDAY- Meatloaf and Potato Salad- from this cookbook. Somewhat similar to this recipe of hers but would highly recommend trying the cookbook version. Corinna is our most particular eater and she ate the whole thing up which is not typically how things go around here.

SATURDAY- Burger Night with salad and sweet potato fries

SUNDAY- Creamy Bacon and Tuscan Shrimp with fresh sourdough {from this cookbook}

WHAT I WORE

We are definitely at the end of our spring weather because the temperatures are rising fast! It seemed like our spring was so short, but we enjoyed some fun thundershowers and lightning storms this week. One day I was in a rain jacket and the next in shorts and a tee {I wear the heathered oat one all the time}. It will be interesting to see what our summer weather is like but it’s typically very hot and dry.

Margaux is one of my favorite shoe brands and I just got this Downtown Boot. I had my eye on this pair of slides and these sandals but I feel like my wardrobe is really missing a classic everyday boot and these look so perfect with the suede and stacked heel. I feel like it’s a boot I can wear any season and I love how comfortable they are.

This striped tee has held up for several years. It has a great comfortable and soft material and I can wear it year-round.

ON MY MIND

This week I took Corinna out for some special mommy/daughter time. It was so nice to catch up with her and she loved getting a special steamer latte {foamed milk with cinnamon and honey}. How cute are her little flower sunglasses?!

We spent a lot of time outside this week with picnic lunches and dinner on our patio. You really appreciate spring after a long winter!

Lots of snuggles with my tiniest girl too! How cut are those baby bell bottoms? They were a hand-me-down from a cousin and Corinna wore them too.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

dreaming of summer

Aloha from Hawaii! We’ve been having such a special time on O’ahu, soaking up some much-needed sunshine after our Idaho winter, and enjoying all the beach days! I have to say though, for as much fun as we’re having, I’m really looking forward to getting back home and settling in to enjoy summer. There are so many new recipes I’m looking forward to trying, not to mention getting back to my sourdough starter. I picked up this book, The Women’s Heritage Sourcebook, at the library before we left and I think I’ll have to buy a copy for myself. There are so many projects that I’m very curious about, like fermenting vegetables {these will come in handy!}, making my own butter, along with some fruity beverages!

I know we’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors, me working on my summer garden and the kids playing alongside. I’m not sure who is more ready for al fresco dining, me or Augustine. He’s been asking to sit outside for months but the weather hasn’t allowed it. This seagrass-wrapped pitcher and matching glasses would be fun to have on our outdoor table with fresh lemonade, or maybe some sun tea!

I’ve had my eye on this great summer hat and, for days at the lake, I love this black textured one piece suit from Hunza G. It’s a splurge but this brand supposedly has amazing suits that last season after season and it should work with my bump {here’s a more affordable option I like too} Simple sandals like this pair are so classic, and pack easily for trips. If you’re between sizes, size up!

I’ve been looking for a pair of everyday hoop earrings and I have my eye on this style and this one. Which is your favorite? I love that it’s such a simple detail that can really elevate the most basic of outfits. And how pretty is this little flower dish? I have a thing for scalloped pottery right now. This one would be perfect to place jewelry while you’re washing your hands/feeding your starter, or you could use it under an espresso cup!

For days at the farmers market, this French market bag would be ideal. I have a straw tote but I love that this has a longer shoulder strap which would make it even easier to carry. If not loaded with vegetables, you can also use it to tote beach towels to and fro.

I can’t wait to visit our local farms and pick fresh fruits like cherries and peaches. An upgrade to some pretty bakeware might be nice to really showcase some delicious fruit cobblers and crisps!

Ah I’m totally dreaming of summer! I can’t wait to soak it all in! What are you most looking forward to doing in the warmer months ahead?

SHOP THIS POST

Also here are some of the best Memorial Day Sales going on this weekend:

J.Crew– extra 60% off sale items, plus 30% off almost everything else! I love this tiered midi dress and these cute sunnies! Use code SUMMER

Shopbop– up to 50% off designer sale! I think Shopbop’s site is so well-curated and I’m always discovering new brands through them.

Jenni Kayne– I’ve loved looking at Jenni Kayne pieces but have yet to add anything to my wardrobe. This weekend everything is 20% off and I’m so tempted by their most popular cardigan. They last season after season and I have a feeling I’d wear it all the time, making the cost per wear pretty low. I’m feeling more inspired to invest in quality pieces I’ll have for years to come and that’s how I feel when I’m on their site. At the very least, I think I’ll pick up this candle with scents of jasmine, clove, tobacco, and amber. Use code MDW20.

Serena and Lily– 20% off everything, including new sale styles. Use code WAVES. Another good excuse to pick up that seagrass-wrapped pitcher and the matching glasses. I also love their whole outdoor collection – totally has me dreaming of summer!

Lulu & Georgia– 20% off everything! We have so many pieces from Lulu and Georgia, like our comfy sofa! Whether you’re looking for larger furniture pieces, like a rug, or smaller accents, I always love looking at their selection! I also know the owner Sara and she’s pretty wonderful!

Parachute Home– 20% off everything (and it only happens twice a year). Love their bedding so much, especially their linen sheets! One day I want to get this cotton quilt in the natural/ivory combo! If you’re feeling like your bedroom needs a spring/summer refresh, this would be a great time to take advantage of their sale.
