Look at this hairstyle, you guys! It looks complicated, right? I’m telling you it is beyond easy! Yes, I say that even though my friend Kim from Nicol Artistry was the one that did it for these photos, but I’ve been able to recreate it myself. Promise! Which is why I’m sharing how to do your date night hair and makeup in under 30 minutes. Because, while it’s easy, it’s also super fast! And isn’t that important when you have a date waiting?
Date Night Hair and Makeup in Under 30 Minutes
STEP 1// Curl you hair! Add lots of spiral curls. They don’t need to be perfect because you’ll braid them but you want the thickness and volume from the curled hair. My favorite wand is the T3 Wand Trio. It’s a little more expensive but you get three wands and they’re the best I’ve used in years {I talk more about it in my Top 10 Favorite Beauty Products of 2016 post}. It also curls really quickly and effectively so I save a lot of time here. Usually, I’m done in 10-15 minutes! For a look like this, I would use the 1″ straight barrel.
STEP 2// Flip your hair upside down a couple times to break up the curls and add a little more body! Spray with a texturizing spray. This one from Kristin Ess’s new line for Target is gold! It adds the perfect messy, lived-in look. Plus, it’s a much much better deal than this cult favorite.
STEP 3// Take two pieces by the crown of your head and twist them back, pinning to secure them in place.
STEP 4// Start your fishtail! Divide the hair into two sections. Separate a half-inch section of hair from the outside of the left ponytail. Pull this piece across the top of the left pony and over to the right ponytail. Next, separate a half-inch section of hair from the outside of the right ponytail and pull it across the top of the right pony to the left side. Repeat until you get to the top of your shoulders. Secure with an elastic. Wrap and pin a piece of hair to hide the elastic.
STEP 5// Mess it up! Pull at the braid a little bit to loosen it. You want the braid to be a little messy and natural. Pulling at the braid’s sections will make it a little more full too.
and now for the makeup,
STEP 1// Foundation. We used the Dior Airflash Foundation here which has great coverage. For everyday, though, I’ve been using this Burt’s Bees BB Cream and I love it! It’s light but still covers well.
STEP 2// Apply Eyeshadow- We used a combo of NARS shades with Albatross as a base, and layered with Alhambra and Galapagos. We added a little sparkle with the Revlon Eye Art Base in Topaz Twinkle.
STEP 3// Skip the eyeliner on the bottom and opt for some lashes on top instead. The Ardell Demi Wispies are always a good choice!
STEP 4// Blush- Apply blush just on the apples of the cheeks. And be careful not to overdo it! We used NARS Blush in Goulue.
STEP 5// If you want to give your brows some shape, try the Sephora Eyebrow Editor in Nutmeg. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz is also amazing!
STEP 6// Lipstick! Always add lipstick for a date night. You can let it kiss off later 😉 We used Smashbox Stepping Out. Adding this to my lipstick wishlist stat!
There you have it! I’d love to know what you think if you try this look. Maybe for a belated Valentine’s Day dinner? It would be a stunner for a girls’ night too!
I’d also love to hear if you have any hair/makeup requests! I love working with Kim from Nicol Artistry on these. You can see our Halloween tutorial we did for Galactic Girl, along with our Feminine Holiday Makeup Tutorial. The latter was a base for this look!
Have a great weekend everyone and thanks so much for reading!
