Fun fact, I was an English major in college! I love to read and am so so so thrilled that Augustine already seems to have caught the literary love bug. We read multiple books to him a day, these are 20 of his favorites, so we’re always looking for fun new books to read. We found so many cute fall children’s books, that I couldn’t resist sharing them with you. Hopefully the little one in your life will love them as much as Augustine does!

Our Favorite Fall Children’s Books for Augustine

Good Night God by Holly Bea

This is the story I’m reading to Augustine in the above photos. It has been a recent favorite of his, especially at bedtime! The story takes place on a fall afternoon and the images are just so perfect – crisp piles of leaves to lay in and pumpkins in the garden. It makes me want to move somewhere where you can experience a true fall!

Little Blue Truck’s Halloween by Alice Schertle

Augustine LOVES the Little Blue Truck books, so of course we’ll be reading him this story as we get closer to Halloween!

Let it Fall by Maryann Cocca-Leffler

This story is full of fun fall activities like hayrides and apple picking. I’m hoping this story will get Augustine excited for some of our upcoming fall family outings.

The Poky Little Puppy and the Pumpkin Patch by Diane Muldrow

Could the poky little puppy be any cuter? Yes he can, in this fall themed adventure!

We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger

Join three friends on a fun leaf-finding adventure! This new version of the popular song is perfect to read out loud to your little one.

Leaves by David Ezra Stein

This charming story of a bear’s first autumn is the perfect way to teach your child about the changing seasons.

The Biggest Pumpkin Surprise Ever by Steven Kroll

Augustine still has so much fun with lift-the-flap books. This has been a fun one to read since Augustine has been seeing pumpkins everywhere.

Fletcher and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson

Follow along with Fletcher as he learns about the changing seasons when the leaves fall off of his favorite tree. Hopefully we can find some similar trees to show Augustine, but our trees are still pretty green in California!

I See Fall by Charles Ghigna

This book celebrates the many joys of autumn. It’s never to early to get your little one obsessed with fall!

Mouse’s First Fall by Lauren Thompson

Augustine always loves it when we read him books about animals, so of course he loves this one too!

The Very Helpful Hedgehog by Rosie Wellesley

Another animal tale, but this time with a sweet message to teach your kids about friendship and being helpful. I try to expose Augustine to these themes even though he’s still too young to understand them fully.

Apples and Pumpkins by Anne Rockwell

This story has a little girl protagonist who is so excited about fall! I try to make sure we’re reading books to Augustine with female characters in them too.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak

Join a young girl as she takes a walk through forest and town, greeting all the signs of the coming season. In a series of conversations with every flower and creature and gust of wind, she says good-bye to summer and welcomes autumn. P.S. Augustine has been saying bye lately and putting up his hand to wave and it’s the cutest/funniest thing. Especially since his “bye” sometimes sounds like “ba!”

Because of an Acorn by Lola M. Schaefer

This book is so sweet! It teaches children how every tree, flower, plant, and animal connect to one another. An acorn is just the beginning.
