My Healthy Pantry Staples

Happy Monday! A Trader Joe’s cashier once told me that Monday night is their busiest time. Basically, everyone who didn’t get around to grocery shopping over the weekend stops by after work on Monday night. In case that’s you this week {been there, done that!}, I thought it might help for you to see what my healthy pantry staples are. That way, you can stock up on all the necessities!

Gluten Free Pasta 

Whether it’s for a fancy dinner or an easy salad, I always keep my TruRoots Red Lentil pasta in my pantry! I’ve tried a bunch of red lentil pasta and this one is my favorite!

Fancy Pasta 

Matthew’s favorite fancy pasta is Bucatini but if we see Pici we get that because it reminds us of our honeymoon in Tuscany, Italy.

10 Minute Farro from Trader Joes

This easy 10 Minute Farro from Trader Joes goes perfectly with Charlie Bird’s Farro Salad from Cook Like a Pro, a simple and healthy lunch idea to start off the new year. When I was in NYC I had this salad but I have to say, it’s even better when you make it at home! Farro is a great alternative for rice and quinoa and it cooks up so well.

Lentils

One of my pantry essential even since childhood! My dad always would fix them with celery, carrots, and onion and it was the most satisfying meal just on its own. I especially like to use it in this hearty side dish! Augustine and Corinna LOVE lentils which makes me so happy!

Tea 

I am a big tea drinker and my favorite brand to keep on hand is Harney & Sons. The Paris blend in particular smells and tastes amazing! It’s the perfect drink for the cold weather. Love to drink this tea with my Oatmeal Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Scones!

Raw Nuts 

I like to keep cashews and almonds handy to make homemade cashew and almond milk!

Steel Cut Oats and Regular Oats 

We always keep OneDegree Organics Steel Cut and Regular Oats on hand because Augustine and I both love to have it for breakfast with peanut butter! Here’s my go-to oatmeal recipe! I also like this brand because it is Glyphosate-Free.

Coconut Milk 

Always comes in handy for stir frys! Also perfect for Strawbery and Coconut Milk Popsicles!

Garbanzo Beans & Chickpeas

I can easily use a can or two a week! So easy to throw into salads or grain bowls as a good source of vegetarian protein. Lately I’ve been baking them in the oven until they’re crispy…so yummy!

Dried Fruit for Granola 

I try to always keep dried fruit to make homemade granola.

Trader Joe’s Pound Plus Dark Chocolate

Indulgent dessert with tons of iron in! Who knew?! I also like to use this chocolate to make truffles. You can also buy it in stores at Trader Joe’s for much cheaper than online, but I linked to an Amazon seller that got their hands on some for you gals who don’t live near a TJ’s!

Simple Mills Fine Ground Sea Salt Almond Flour Crackers

Super healthy snack when I’m craving carbs or salty snacks! We usually get these with our Thrive Market order. An easy snack for me or Augustine.

Dates 

I frequently use dates for refined sugar-free desserts! They’re also delicious on their own, and of course with peanut butter! That combo will always remind me of my 3rd Trimester with Corinna bc my midwife said they help with labor.

Rao’s Marinara Sauce

Slightly more expensive but it’s incredibly worth it! The ingredients are amazing and the flavor tastes like homemade. And keep an eye out at Costco, because we often find it there for cheaper! I  like to keep this sauce in handy for quick meals. It allows me to bring a little bit of Italy to my kitchen because of how authentic it tastes.

Guittard Chocolate Chips 

These are my favorite chocolate chips and you know I take my cookies seriously lol! The only warning I can give is that they are highly addictive!

Costco Maple Syrup 

This is my whole family’s favorite maple syrup! Augustine likes to pair up this syrup with his Pumpkin Spice Waffles in the fall.

Nutzo Nut Butter 

I am so addicted to this nut butter, especially when paired with dates {seriously, try this combo!}. I like to put it in my oatmeal or with bananas or apples for a midday snack. It feels light to eat but it fills me up.

Most Used Spices

Of course, we gotta add a little flavor to our food! Our go-to spices are thyme, garlic, smoked paprika, oregano, zatar, and maldon sea salt.

January Edit: Workout & Wellness Faves

As I’ve mentioned before on my Instagram Stories, I’ve been working really hard to keep up with my fitness routine. At first I just wanted to lose the baby weight after Corinna, but working out quickly began to mean a lot more to me. Even if I can only squeeze in 20 minutes a day, I feel so much better. Not just physically, but mentally. I find carving out a little time in my day to devote to healthy habits like working out or journaling gives me clarity and the ability to be calm. I thought I would share some of my favorite fitness and wellness faves that I love and are on my wishlist!

I’m a big fan of Beyond Yoga’s activewear. It’s so beautiful and embraces soft, muted colors that I’m drawn to. This tank and legging combo is so pretty. I feel like it would pair perfectly with this long sleeve tee. I like to layer my activewear so I can have something comfy and cute to wear on my way to a barre or yoga studio. Then I can take the tee off and just wear the tank if I get hot in class! A good hoodie is always helpful too. This dual-toned style is so cute!

For sneakers, I am a big fan of New Balance. I feel like this grey pair would look so cute with the outfit I picked out above. I also get a lot of use out of headbands while I workout to keep the hair off my face. Especially when I was growing out my bangs! A good soft one is easy to throw in the wash with your delicates when it gets sweaty.

I do most of my exercising at home, but I’m hoping to make it to more studios this year since I loved the barre class I tried last year! I love the idea of having a few helpful items in my gym bag like these cleansing wipes for removing makeup pre-workout {a must for keeping skin clear!} and for wiping away sweat after. For those of you who have busy days and need to freshen up at the gym, I feel like this multi-purpose oil would be such a great thing to keep in your bag to moisturize skin and smooth any flyaways. Love that it has really natural ingredients too. A travel sized flat iron would be a must have for those of you who like to workout before work or on your lunch break!

For at home workouts, I love Tone It Up’s line of fitness gear and healthy foods from Target, like this booty band! The prices are so affordable and everything is super cute! I’m also a big fan of their vanilla protein powder, so I’m planning on buying their vanilla collagen creamer to add to my morning coffee. When I’m at home I also like to use wireless headphones so I can easily watch television while on the elliptical machine. I feel like girls who like to hit the gym, this wireless headphone case that clips to your gym bag would help you make sure you never lose your pair!

As I mentioned in my recent blog post about my plans for 2020, I really want to minimize and simplify my life this year. One way I’m doing that is by being more thoughtful with my purchases. In order to do that, I wanted to identify my trusty wardrobe staples. That way I can see easily what I should {and more importantly shouldn’t!} add to my wardrobe. It also makes the getting ready process a lot easier when I know I have some versatile and wearable options!
